TRD front skid, stock engine skid, RCI transmission skid.
I liked the look and OEMness of the TRD aluminum skid plate. But I wanted to install a RCI transmission skid behind the stock engine skid. I took the stock engine skid off, cut off the swing out clip, and heat and beat the rear bolt assembly points until they were flat. I made some 1.25" dia. spacers out .375 aluminum and got some 36mm long bolts and thick fender washers for attachment. The RCI trans skid slides between the spacers and the engine skid. There are two "tabs" on the stock engine skid. I knocked the threaded nuts off of them and marked where the holes lined up on the RCI trans skid. I drilled and tapped the RCI skid 1/4-28 and bolted those tabs with thick fender washers. I did not want the tabs or the engine skid to hang up if I dragged it backwards over something. You could just drill it out to 3/8" and bolt it together if you were so inclined. That would be stronger, I may change it.
The RCI trans skid bolts on over the Catalytic converter protection brackets. My 4R is a 2021 and those brackets have sheet metal bolt guards . I made some square spacers out of .3125 aluminum so the skid was not resting on the sheet metal ears. I do not have the RCI transfer case skid but it will bolt on with no problem if I want to add it later.

I used a "C" Clip when one of mine went missing.
Otherwise, there is a parts kit that should contain all of those parts...................sorry, I don't have the part #.
I just purchased an SR5. Do all 4Rs have this problem? Are the bolts steel? I know about galvanic reaction with aluminum and steel. Even stainless steel will cause reaction. I believe titanium will not. I will do some research. That and I will J-B Weld the spacers in place. The engineers failed miserably for these two design flaws.

Thought the TRD aluminum skid was not compatible with KDSS but you say you have KDSS. Was it a straight remove and replace or did you have to modify the TRD AL skid plate? Thanks and Happy new year everyone...cheers!
Both sides of the TRD skid plate will need to be notched or trimmed in order for it to work on a KDSS-equipped T4R, to clear the larger anti-sway bar.

Which type of trim did you do (the U-notch or the one where the sides looked to be trimmed off) - would you be able to post some photos (I'm in the same boat). Also with the trim are you worried debris can get in from the sides?
I personally do not have a TRD skid plate. In my research for it, I have run across several members who've trimmed one, some use notches, others a straight across trim. I'm pretty sure I've seen youtube videos on trimming the TRD skid also. Check out post #110 by [MENTION=109703]niadh0[/MENTION], there's photos of a trimmed TRD skid, showing both sides. Trimming method seems to be a matter of taste.
I figure the oil change guys are loosening and tightening them.

As always this site is awesome. Just picked up the TRD skid plate for my 2019 SR5 from BAM since its on sale there and the info on this thread will be put to good use! Thanks!
The instructions say to delete the plastic piece but I just trimmed mine back in the middle. Some airflow into the radiator may be retained.

What is the tap size for the smaller bolts that hold the black plastic shield between the stock skid and the bumper?

After researching this I'm just going to leave the plastic shield on without any cutting or trimming, just going to bolt the TRD skid right over the plastic. This seems like the best move, with my luck I would have a branch go right thru my radiator on the first day if left it off...
