In with the Prius out with...MR2 or 4Runner? =( Sad day

Well commuting 45 miles per day led to get a 2010 Prius.

Here is the dilemma...which car should I let go?!?!

2002 4Runner Sport 4WD
145k Miles
MPG: 14ish
Toytec Ultimate Lift Kit
Stock Wheels and Tires, tires have 90% thread left (will sell my current setup)
Pros: dirt hills, ride height, cool factor

1993 MR2 Non-Turbo
70k Miles
MPG: 25ish
All stock
No power steering
Pros: windy corners, extremely low mileage, sports car

Reasons for selling:

1. Just got engaged (tried talking her into letting me keep 3 Toyotas, not having it)
2. No parking for 3 Toyotas + Fiance's Car (Small SUV/Crossover)
3. 4 cars for 2 drivers does not make sense

I'd keep the 4Runner unless her small SUV is good enough for hauling stuff. I don't know what your living situation is like but we just bought a 4Runner as a 3rd car just for the fact that it is nice to have a big car for certain things. The MR2 is a fun car sure - but really if I were in your shoes, I don't imagine driving it ever as the Prius would be a more logical choice for everything I could do in the MR2 - unless I intend to go to the track....

In all honesty, if you are considering selling the 4Runner it might be time to move on. It's like that girlfriend in high school that everyone had; you broke up once, then got back together but it wasn't the same because you were apart, blah, blah, blah.

Tune the 4runner up and keep it, I promise I get 19-20 mpg average every tank. Careful.driving too. I would hate to let it go, plus you will be voted off t4r island

Too late now, but I'd think keeping 4runner & commuting the MR2 might have been the best course. The MR2 isn't going to appreciate or really hold significant value.

The difference saved in MPG between the MR2 & a Prius doesn't really justify spending $$$$$ on a hybrid. I know where you are coming from with the attachment to the MR2 - I once felt the same about a CRX I had.

Maybe at this point since you already have the Prius, sell the 4runner & the MR2 and use the money for something to make a good start in married life. Pay off debt, down payment on a house, etc. You don't need 4 vehicles, but there's probably a list of things you do need.

Take the prius back and rock the fun miles on the MR2. Ive owned both MR2s (2) and 4runners (2) and driven then Prius..... I have drive lots of cars from lambos to Yugos and the Prius is towards the bottom. Sorry cant stand them.

Id keep the MR2 they are getting harder to find but id do something fun with it. Id say turbo or a cool guy Beams motor.

unless the prius looks like this, id dump the prius. and unless you commute in town prius' are not as economical as people want to believe... once you get out on the hwy with them they dont really do all that great...

id say dump the mr2 honestly since u cant drop the fiance its a small car plus atleast with the 4runner once u have a family started they can fit in the 4runner to plus you need a truck to get some of ur masculinaty back after driving a prius

this what you do you give her the prius you keep the 4runner and then on nights where you guys out together you drive the mr2. LOL just an idea oh and get rid of her suv/crossover. Thats what i would try to do. But if you get rid of the 4 runner are you taking it all back to stock if so id like to buy the lift off you if you do.

seriously if I was commuting I'd get a VW diesel golf. A decent car that has styling and a interior that makes sense. Its nearly as economical as a prius on the highway. As others commented, a prius does great in city, but not so far ahead on the highway. Id get rid of the MR2 - but I dont 'get' them.

A TDI can get a better milage then a Prius. If they sold the Polo in the states they get 75mpg the ultimate commuter.
