All good advice from Brian. Just to chip in with one question left unanswered:

Those clear plastic crimp connectors are where the PO cut off the connector to the stock HU and spliced in the black connector that goes to your current HU. If it works with your new HU, just leave it as is, then upgrade as Brian suggests. If you upgrade power and ground connections, splice in where those clear crimps are at and tape off the wires left unused from the truck.

You're on the right track especially if you run new 14G (or 16G really would work) speaker wire from the Alpine power pack to each speaker.

Running the wires are pretty easy and those panels come off with little trouble.

I also really really suggest you run NEW power and ground from the car battery to your SONY & the Alpine power pack. A simple 12G black & red wire from AutoZone will work perfectly for this. Just run 1 (+) and 1 (-) will be fine, you can split them near the deck. Be sure to put a fuse with 1 ft of the battery. Doing this will help to prevent speaker whine (in my opinion) :fish2:

This is the wire set that came with the amp you suggested Brian.





It runs into the amp from the HU for the speakers. So these are rca female jacks, and so are the corresponding jackes in my HU. Ive looked and looked online, and I havent seen any cables with male rca jacks on both ends. So how would I go about connecting these to my HU? I saw male rca jacks without cables that you crimp yourself. Should I just buy 8 of those and crimp them to 4 wires?

Do you meant that is wiring connector for the Alpine Power Pack? Please clarify. I have never seen one in person.

Male to Male RCAs .... easy.

Don't cut or crimp any RCA cables.

You really want a decent shielded audio cable. Buy these Monster cables. They are shielded and only 3 feet each. You don't need a long cable correct? I assume you are putting the power pack in behind the stereo. There is a lot of room in there. If you decide to put it under the front seat then you will probably want 6 foot cables.

It is a good idea to get the shortest workable cable length.

Well, I didnt see this post until after I found a set of rca wires on ebay and bought them. I went with 10 ft cause I wasnt sure where I wanted to mount the amp. But they are JL audio gold plated jacks, and were fairly pricey so I think theyll work well.

This speaker upgrade is getting expensive
