Inside temp readout inaccurate with AC on

Outside Ambient temp readout is inaccurate with AC on.

I've been noticing this for awhile since it has gotten hot enough to run the AC. My temp display reads a full 20 degrees to low whenever the AC is running. Is the sensor located next to a cold line or something?

I've been using my A/C a lot lately but haven't had any issues with the outside temp reading. :shrug: Pretty sure the sensor is located just behind the grill so that the heat of the engine bay doesn't interfere with it.

Mine is pretty much spot on unless I take it to a car wash (not very often) when I do it reads 20 degrees lower.....

It's kinda weird, I'll get in the truck after its been sitting parked in the sun and it reads a perfectly accurate temp. Then I start driving with the AC on and it slowly drops down about 20 degrees over the course of about ten to fifteen minutes. When I don't run the AC it's very accurate. Not that big a deal, just some curious quirkiness. Didn't know if anybody else noticed this so asking.
I'd be interested in hearing where that temp sensor is located if anyone knows.

Maybe the sensor is installed in the cab? Now that would jive with my readings.

I'm convinced that since the display reads "outside" there's a secret code to get it to read "inside" temps. Maybe you've found the Easter egg.:tinfoil3:

I had a zero point calibration done. Maybe they in putted that secret code and now I'm reading inside temps. :

The sensor is outside.

Mine will sometimes drop when I first start driving it but that's usually due to heat soak and has nothing to do with the a/c running.

I know this is an old thread but my 2011 just started doing the same thing today. Mine is about 15 degrees low. Anybody else notice this. Any easy fix?

Mine has done that but never due to the a/c being on. Everytime it has done it I have been offroading and it had mud on it

This happened on both of my off roading weekends. After I ran it through a car wash it returned to normal. My guess is the sensor just has some crud covering it. And I have no idea where it is located, but all we had on those occasions was lots of dust.

I'm going to be noticing this to see if its still this way. Not hot enough to run ac here yet, but soon. Someone else commented about crud or buildup on the sensor, but that's not it. I have the most crudless, spotless inside and out and under hood 4runner anywhere.
I just keep my vehicles in top shape, and clean ,always have. Its something else. But perhaps this summer will be different.
If it were crud , why not be off all the time then? Why just with AC on? Last summer it was 20 degrees to cool on the display. Only with ac on.

I couldn't say. I'm just saying I have had the same thing happen to mine twice, and the conditions that seemed to cause it. Honestly when I posted that last night I didn't even see all the other crud responses. I was trying to type that entry between work related distractions and it probably took close to a half an hour before I actually posted it. And I wasn't using the A/C in either case. Basically mine stuck on the morning temperature on the second day when we hit the trails and just never ramped up as the day warmed up. It went in the carwash reading 64 and came out reading the mid 80's the day had turned into.
