Install of CB Radio: Cobra WX ST

So I'm posting these for two reasons. One, another member here wanted some pics. And two, if some one else had posted something like this, it would of helped me. Yeah, I did try search!
Here's 4 shots of the set up I did with my brothers help & guidance. I attached a K40 antenna with a magnetic mount right behind the sunroof but in front of the roof rack bar. I ran the cable between the 2 passenger side doors, up alongside the glove box and then plugged it into the CB. I just placed the silver connector box in a cleverly placed slot up underneath the arm rest lid to the glove box. The CB cable and it's power supply cord just barely fit under the closed lid. I had to buy the Radio Shack plug and fed the wires into it. I didn't want to drill through anything, as really I'll only be using this CB once a month for these CCMG club trips or maybe on my next cross country drive to see my friends in Colorado.
This was much easier than I figured, guess I made it out more complicated than it needed to be. Let me know if you have any questions.

Bringing it back from the dead...

I am thinking about getting a CB and am debating between handheld/all-in-one/standard box and mic.

Are you still happy with your setup? Reception? Would you do anything differently?

i had a magnetic mount on top of my 4r for several weeks. after i removed it for some detailing i noticed an accumulation of rust stains, on top of the paint.

waiting for a brush guard or bull bar to mount a cb antenna on that instead.

Magnet mounts are great for temporary mounts however it is crucial that where you mount it is clean and you wipe the bottom of the magnet before putting it on car. Any dirt that is trapped between the magnet and the car is vibrated and can grind through the paint, resulting in the small rust spots mentioned by previous poster.

OP- While you resurected this thread from the dead there are several other people that have run these same CB's and almost all appreciate their small footprint and ability to be next to invisible when the Mic is removed. They have ok to average reception but if you are using on the trail only then they are more then adequate.

Hell yeah I still love this sort of expensive purchase! It banged around on the drive out to Colorado, off roading out there, and then back. 1,800 miles total. I just pulled it out of storage today after using it last back in July for that Colorado trip. Works like a charm! The only trouble I've ever had is after hard core wheeling or over lots of bumps and bangs, my antenna will get loose (just needs to be retightened at the magnetic base) and I'll start to loose connection (of course) then. But I have no complaints what so ever regarding the CB.
I wanted a CB that would be plug and play, and not a full time install as I don't want to bang my or the passenger shins on that box, and I didn't want anything drilled down under the drivers seat. There is just no room to feel safe for me and this set up was perfect.

Ruffian-Glad it is still working for you, and it is nice to have that extra sense of security and comminication on long trips.

Brandon-I would go with either the 75 or a box type mount as if you are off-roading a handheld can bounce around out of reach or become a projectile causing damage to yourself and or vehicle.. My Friend loves his 75

Yeah it does drive me a little crazy on steep hills when the reciever sildes off the seat, but I just prepare for that and put it in the cup holder. I just remembered one issue but I don't know if it's the CB's fault or just a cb radio thing. If I get too close to the off roader in front of me, I don't pick up their transmission. It doesn't seem to happen to all the other wheelers, just a select few. I think it must be how the radio waves go. I've never had a complaint that I couldn't be heard...well until my antenna gets loose!
