installed OME 906 rear coils

well I got the itch again and installed 906 rear coils with the stock 99 coils up front. Bilstein HD at the 4 corners. 2 weeks ago, I towed my jet ski for the first time with my 4runner. Stopped by my parents house on the way home and my mom says "how come the back is soo low?" that was enough for me. After much contemplation ......ie spend 150 for some new coils.....or save up the 1000 clams for the 3" ultimate toytech. Got 'em last night and installed them right away. went from 35.5 ground to fender up to 36.75. gain of 1.25. just what i wanted. Rides nicer too. Will post pics in the daylight.

Cool! I may do something similar. Sometimes I really want a lift, but most times I realize it just isn't necessary for the driving I do. Having that slight rake and a more sag-resistant rear end for towing appeals to me. Thanks for the pics!

"toytech ultimate" is exactly what the name implies, but I'm really happy with the 906 and the inch-ish rear lift. I was trying to imagine what the 890's would look like, but thought the rake would be too steep. In the perfect world...I would have already slapped on the toytech....being 6'5" it would fit. However the the wifey is 5'2.5" and like the stickers say "fat chicks can't jump" (always chuckle when i see that) well she's not fat, but short chicks can't get to high either (i'd hate to see a combo). Couple that with CV boot issues, gas milage, blah blah. After looking at all the lifted pics here, all the cons seem to melt away in drool. So envy remains and unless i want to be sleeping in my 4runner under a bridge.....1 inch will have to do and the running boards must stay. :whipping2 say what you will, but really, who isn't?

Isn't the part number for the HD fronts BE5-2450? The HD rears are 2451. The F332 are the non-HDs, right?

Sorry...confused.

Also, they say they are not to be used in a lift...but you installed OME springs on the rear. Any issues there? Seems like they'd be a tad too short.

Bilstein, Innovation and High Quality Since 1873

here's the info from the bilstein site, both are listed as B6 heavy duty. It was an oversight when i posted the ebay link. I have the 2482's in the front. yes it's not meant for a lifted vehicle. I thought with the extra 1 inch or so people have been getting with the '99 coils -> 906's it wouldn't make a huge difference. after intstall and fill weight on the 906's, i had to compress the bilsteins about 2 inches. So they were plenty long. After settling i lost about 0.5 inches, so it should make it a little better. No problems yet, but if you're thinking on doing the 906's you might want to by the lifted bilsteins.

Why doesn't the 2450 show up on that list? Why are there 3 options for HD shocks? They don't explain how they are different. Weird.
 
Not hijacking...just looking for answers.

I've been pondering the OME 906's because I'm not in a position where it is feasible to have any of the really fun lifts at this stage of life. I just need something to solve the rear sag and will smooth out the ride when hauling the family gear. My question: Can I replace the original rear coils with OME 906 coils? I have about 8 months worth of driving on Monro Sensatrac shocks/struts and not able to justify all new again...Can the simple swap work or am I going to have to settle for spacers? Opinions welcome....
 
I just did the same thing a week ago. It was really easy. Took about 45 min. I like the lift so much i just purchased the Toyotec coilovers last night :D

Toy4Rner - it's been over a year now since you added the OME 906 and Bilsteins in the rear. Are you still happy with the ride? Any additional spring sag occur?

I just swapped in a set of the Moog OEM replacements and ProComp ES3000 yesterday and still hitting the bump stop in parking lots. Got about a 1/4" lift which is about what I was expecting, but also the shocks are just waaaaay too soft and mushy.

Contemplating:
a) keep the Moogs and put in a set of Bilstein 24-024518
b) put in a set of 906 and the Bilstein 24-024518

Ugh.

I did it about a month ago, i havent checked the sag on them, but i would assume its 1/4 in or 1/2 inch, the ride is firm (wheen installed 36.5 ish), which i love, but if you like a soft ride then maybe its not the way to go for you, i have Stock 98 coils up from which put me at 35.5" on both sides, the same as 99 talls :D So depending on your years this could look akwards if you have an 01 or 02, or pretty good with minor rake if you have the earlier years.
 
Ride height has not dropped a bit. Granted, I haven't carried any significant load or towed anything. The ride is slightly firmer than my '99 coils, but it corners well......much better than stock (firm, planted, much less body roll) Really I should say it corners as well as a 2 ton SUV can. It's basically the baby mobile. I'm happy with this combo of the bilsteins and the 906's.
