Instrument Gauge Cluster Access

Hey everyone! :hello: First off, I'm new here as a new owner of a 2000 Sr5. I'm going to post in the new member section as soon as I can get some good photo's of the new ride in the sun. It's been raining every other day here in AL.

Here's my question -

Since purchasing my SR5 I have been cleaning and detailing it. I have noticed a larger amount of dust built up behind the instrument gauge cluster on the base of the cluster, just behind the screen. Can anyone tell me what parts of the dash/steering wheel cover/etc. that I need to remove, and in what order, so that I can gain access and remove the screen?

I've been searching this topic on the forums but I just can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. I must admit however, I have never been the best at forum searches.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check out dash led conversion threads. I don't remember what order but its pretty strait forward. You don't need to touch the steering. Just remove panels and keep taking things off, you'll get there. From what I remember there were some hidden bolts somewhere along the lines so if it doesn't go, look for a bolt:)))! Good luck! Oh and grab some leds while you're at it, you won't regret it;)

4 bolts along bottom panel (by fuse box, etc. 10mm IIRC). Pop the plastic piece around the ignition off. That gives you access to 4 screws holding the shroud on. Then its just 4 little screws that hold the cluster. Be gentle with the plugs and paper circuit board on the back of the cluster-

Thanks so much to all of you for the direction. While I have a lot of experience with maintaining and removing things on my cars, this is my first 4runner, and I don't like to run blind if at all possible. This is more than enough to get everything done, PLUS now it seems I have an LED bulb project coming up. :)
