Interior Lighting mod

Ah! That last pic makes it perfectly clear how the snap-tabs work. I see there's even guide buttons. I'll laugh at myself for being such a woosie, after this is done.

I did every light inside the truck with LEDs (I especially like the front map lights), but I put this one off. And every single time I unlock the truck at night, it reminds me to finish these too. No excuse now.

I would love to purchase all my interior lights from Oznium, they were good to deal with. I did my 2008 with the white LEDS and loved the look as they were super bright. Has anyone tried them out for the 2010s?
 
Great ideas guys. This has definitely given me some interest in otherwise ugly lighting that I was hoping to mod sometime. So many things to do to this SR5!

Has anyone tried the 3710-xHP6 size for the dome light instead?
-3022 is the recommended size for Tacomas as well, but it's too small and the 3710 fit much better (Possibly, Toyota is using the same sizes for both vehicles). The map lights where the exact same on the Tacoma too (WLED-WHP5), and I just did those this weekend which look great.

I'll give this size a shot, unless anyone has already tried and failed with the 3710 size.

It is about 2/10th of an inch longer. As I recall, mine was already pretty tight when I put in my 3022. Please let us know for sure if the bigger ones will squeeze in there!

Negative... the 3710 just wouldn't fit.

The Taco and 4Runner still share the same size map lights, but for some reason, we have a smaller dome light bulb than the Taco now.

You meant the 3710 won't fit, right? I have a 3022 in mine. I wonder if I can get my hands on a Taco dome light to mount up above my cargo area. Right now, all I have in there is strips on each side and they are not ideal.

Do you have a picture of the Taco dome light?

Yeah, I meant that the 3710 is too big...

My buddy's got a Tacoma, so I should have just waited until I could test his out, but since the Map lights were the same, I figured it would work.

Camping pic w/ LEDs

LEDs in cargo area came in handy last weekend! However, the ones I put into the rear window panels are the 3M ones and they lost their stick. I am planning on putting a Taco Dome Light back there instead eventually. This pic is with the 3M LED bands (bought at Autozone) NOT recommended for long-term, but good for lighting the cargo area. Since I had the canoe on top, I was unable to use the rear gate factory lights, and also because I had enough junk in there to cover it up. We used the roll-down window to access the rear cargo area for two nights of camping, and having the retro-fitted LED strips was really nice. All the more reason to install dome light...

Ha! No, not at all, but it is about the same brightness as the rest of the vehicle now, which is a HUGE improvement. As I said before though, the best option is going to be to put in a new dome light, or maybe even two of them. I plan to do this, and run it off of the existing dome light. If I need extra light in the back, I can always just switch it on (it will not come on when you open the rear gate since that is a different circuit...but it will come on when I open the other four doors or unlock the vehicle...assuming it is in the "door" position). I also don't like the "pimpability" of the strip LEDs...little too big city for me! You can see them from the outside of the truck when they are on.

I am wondering if it would be better to run the power off of the circuit that powers the rear tailgate lights. Not sure how easy it would be to get to those lines, but it might allow the newly installed lights to come on when you unlock the car.

I am really torn on this actually...but I think it would be harder to wire it to the rear gate lights. I kind of like the idea of doing it so that it only comes on when you open one of the front four doors (wired to existing dome light) because you don't always need it when you open the rear lift gate. I find that I only need it when I am really looking around for something, or when I roll down the rear gate window. What would be really cool is if somebody could figure out how to make the new dome light come on with ALL doors AND the operation of the rear gate window! However, I am perfectly fine with using the switch on the new mounted dome light too...

Good points. Do you have a line on a dome light to install yet? I am pretty upset that the designers decided to leave off the dome light. Seriously, if you go into the cargo area without opening the tailgate, you cant see anything in there at night!

Yes, read this thread, but also note that my rear cargo area in that pic was lit up with the strip LEDs that you can buy right off the rack at Autozone. They stick onto the panels above the rear cargo area side widows. I ran a cigarette lighter attachment to the strips. I just plug it into the rear cargo area cig lighter jack when I need them. It is temporary. The rest of the LEDs are SWEET though, as descried in this thread before. People notice them all of the time and ask me about them. I love how bright they are without hurting my eyes.

Well, I finally got around to replacing my LEDs in the 5th gen 4runner and they look great. I had done this in my SR5 4th Gen, but this vehicle was a little bit more difficult.

Thanks for the info everyone and especially Shawn719 for the instructions on getting the map lights and Snooperstyle for the mirrors!
