Only the 81 was running chains to tow the 60 up the icy hill. The MTRs are great on snow but on ice they have as much traction as a hockey puck.

I can't decide if you used a hockey puck for reference because it's an accurate description... Or if because you're Canadian.
Anyways, I would say it's beautiful scenery except I hate snow and cold so much that I just can't enjoy the view. I still love the fact that you're always out there wheeling though and I'm mad jealous of that fact.

Nah, I don't even like hockey but it was the only black rubbery thing I could think of that slides on ice. Take a look at my license plate bracket in the one pic.

this may be a weird request but do you mind taking different angled photos of your front wheel well and the modifications you needed to do to fit the 285 MTR's with wheel spacers?
i have a trail also with 285 MTR's on a 17x8.5 wheel with 4.75" of backspacing. i did the BMC and moved liners as much as i could along with a heat gun and still rub with normal city driving. bound to me much worse while wheeling.

Hmm, my wheels are actually 4.3" backspacing and -10mm offset, so slightly different. Are you rubbing in the back of the wheel wells or the front? And what's your caster set at? I had to do the bmc and hammer back the pinch weld to get rid of any rubbing in the back and my caster is set around +4. I never ran the MTRs until after I got the front bumper so I don't know how much they would've rubbed on the front liners.

I have a 2014 and from the looks of it, the front bumper comes back further than the previous years so i guess that won't help me much regardless.
Maybe i will search the pinch weld mod as i have never heard of it (FJ's had much bigger wheel wells).

Pinch weld mod is just flattening the pinch weld with a BAH. Short-handled sledge works well.

hm, what is BMC?
I just had a set of 285 MT/Rs mounted on -12mm offset rims, haven't put on the truck yet. Getting rid of rubbing will be one of my Christmas projects.
Hope this works better than the LR. Does TC have a dirt cover on the ball joint?Tomorrow's project...

Get the angle grinder and hammer ready. You'll probably need to cut your body mounts entirely and hammer back your pinch welds. Not sure what kind of modification you'll need to do to the fender liners since I don't have those. You'll probably also need your caster set as close to +4 as you can get.
No but I actually prefer that it doesn't. I wash the truck every time I get back from wheeling and it's easier to wash the uniballs without a cover than to take the cover off every time. Dirt is going to get in there one way or another.
