Y'know, the other day someone at work looked at my Flickr page and said "it's literally all pictures of trucks". Now setting aside the incorrect use of "literally", I realize that's what I take the most pictures of, but it's a record of good times with friends. As much as I appreciate people enjoying my pics and taking the virtual trail rides with us, I take pictures for myself as a hobby not for others or to sell. My pics are organized by trip and every so often I go back through an album for a single trip and have some laughs. I have been dabbling a little bit in street photography, though, and I think I'll do some more of that in the spring.

Anyhow, sorry to get all philosophical and stuff. Haven't been wheeling lately because we're in that sort of shoulder season where there isn't enough snow to make some trails interesting and there's enough snow to make others downright dangerous. We've also been busy working on starting a new club to fill the CT4WD void. First trail run is on December 6th so I should have some new pics then.

Anyhow, one of my posts isn't complete without a couple pics so here's a couple randoms that I don't think I've posted here before. WARNING: There are no trucks in these pictures.

You're spot on. It's interesting how we delineate our "art" or take on the world around us. I look at my images the same way you do...they're a record of good times. I hope in the future, I can look back and say "I lived".

On another note...I'm actually trying to learn how to drive off road in the snow. As you know, I try to get off the main roads as much as possible, but my confidence level is definitely NOT there. I've already had to dig my way out of a sticky situation. I still don't know my limits when it comes to the snow.

Low pressure is key, 8-10 psi.
Keep a snow shovel, you will get stuck, a lot.
Be very, very careful on side slopes when there is a cliff on the downward side.
If you are climbing a hill and start to slide backwards, shift into reverse (engine braking to control speed) and don't hit your brakes (which will just get you sideways sliding)
ATRAC mostly works better than the locker, the locker tends to get you sideways. CRAWL can actually get you out of things where nothing else will.
You need a winch if you are going it alone. A comealong is a handy addition. If going solo, chains wouldn't be a bad idea to carry.
Powder is great, wet snow and refreeze snow is a ***** (mostly just late season in CO).
Pretty much every trail in Colorado closes to wheeled vehicles on or around December 1st. You're going to need to get a snow mobile.

Yup, all this. And jamming the skinny pedal will just dig you in deeper so ramp speed up steadily. If you're alone, something like Maxtrax could be useful. Throw a sand bag, kitty litter, or deicer in the back too.
 
Well I was supposed to go on a trail run on Saturday but I was noticing a slight vibration through the dead pedal when driving at higher speeds. Suspected a bad wheel bearing so I took it to my mechanic to have it checked and he confirmed that's what it is. No wheeling for me this weekend :(

Ah, that's unfortunate. I came on here looking for some photo's of what I missed today!

We missed ya out there. Gorgeous day, but Pretty tame. Some of the big climbs in to Margaret were pretty slick and not all of us made it, so we decided to head back though Lost Knife. I'm sure with enough runs at it, all of us could have made it through, but there are only so many hours in an afternoon....
 
For anyone curious, this is what the passenger side footwell looks like when I head out.

Yeah, we figured it out. The winch has two drain holes in it - one is sealed from the factory and the other isn't. If the winch is mounted foot down, the drain hole is fine. If the winch is mounted foot forward with the motor on driver's side, then you're supposed to seal up the one hole and remove the seal from the other. But guess what? With the ARB bumper you have to mount foot forward with the motor on the passenger side. Basically, water was getting in through the drain hole and not able to get back out, so it seized up on me a little while back. We opened it up, dried everything off, cleaned it up, sealed everything up, and she's good as new. Just need to clean my line up in spring when I don't have to worry about the line freezing up.

One of the jeep guys brought it with him. There were two groups - the one I was in left earlier and took a trail to get to the meeting spot and the other group left a bit later and took a fire road to get there. The guy with the bikes was in the later group so they were messing around until we got there. Was only about -2C and maybe dropped to -10C by the time I left around 2am. Also got to see six deer and a moose up close as I was driving home. I think the HID X-Ray lights paid for themselves.
