Can't bring myself to go much past 1/4 tank. OCD when it comes to trash in the tank or possibly heating up the fuel pump. 4th and 5th gens have a long empty tho. Ran a tank of non ethanol 90 in the V8 last month, she seemed to like it.

You weenies. Haha. I start looking for a gas station after the light comes on. For longer road trips its sooner of course and if we are wheeling I'm limited by my brothers 19 gallon tank. I've only got a 13 minute commute with at least 4 fuel stops in between so its easy to get near E and fill with 19.x gallons.

Oh yea, wimpy weenie here lol. I had an S10 Blazer that were prone to pump failures, having replaced one in a 94'. They didn't like getting hot which was a result of ROE all the time, which being poor at the time was unavoidable lol.
The other side of the coin is the heat & humidity in Florida develops a lot more water with an empty tank in short order.
I've put exactly 20 gallons in mine once. It probably would have held a few more tenths but the pump cut off at 20. I use the Murphy rewards and get a discount of 10, 20, or 30 cents on gas depending on how much I spend in the store. But the discount is good for 20 gallons only. I don't usually run that low but I was on a road trip and I stretched it to make it to a Murphy that had a killer low price anyway.

Tundra update:
Started the bed swap last weekend, more or less finished this weekend. This is the only project I can remember that took more than 3 days to be driveable. In the end, not worth it LOL. At least 50hrs so far. All by myself. But now it's a truck Toyota never built. No single cab short bed 1st gens were ever made.
Started with this bed I picked up in Tulsa:
Half the torx bolts stripped out so used the angle grinder.
Not quite the right setup. Ended up using the forklift to remove the old and install the new.
Used this bad boy to remove the stuck bolts:
Found out these vents don't allow my doors to close very easily, tons of air wooshes out when slamming a door and the door stays ajar 1/4" unless the window is rolled down or you press on the door when slamming. Not sure of the fix yet.
New bed on:
Plasma'd the bed mounts that aren't used on the short beds.
Marked the cuts. 22" out of the least rusty section of the frame LOL.
Plasma cutter straight edge:

Had to trim the cab pinch weld to make room for the frame rail:
The marriage was successful:
(plated the inside of the frame as well)
Cut out the body mounts from the removed frame rail section and rewelded. Toyota only had one part # for both sides, they aren't symmetrical.
Made new brake lines. You may ask why not shorten the existing brake lines and reflare the ends? Cause I'm an idiot.
Finished result. Still waiting on the shop to shorten the driveshaft for it to be driveable. Should be around 108" wheelbase. 4Runner is 110" and FJ is 106". Had to fabricate a new front crossmember for the fuel tank, rear fuel tank crossmember was re-used and unchanged. The big muffler is removed for now and a turn-down bolted on. I guess I'll try to reuse the rear bumper though its mostly rusted through. Fuel supply and return lines were shortened and reconnected with tubing. Same with the evap line going to the intake.

Man, looks like this weekend was a grind! The short bed on the tundra is messing with my brain a little haha. I already hadn't seen a single cab tundra until reading here a while ago, and now its a whole new animal.
Forgive me for not remembering, but was this going to be a street truck or a solid axle crawler? I know some ideas had been thrown around a while ago, but I can't remember. I also saw you were looking into a turbski in another thread. Either way, sounds like its going to be cool.

Yes rear-mount turbo or 40-42" tires and solid front axle. The thing is I don't want to go back to dailying my 4Runner when its tires cost almost $400 each. So a solid axle swap will happen when I get a different place without my 2 brothers as roommates or someone moves out so I can by a 3rd as a daily driver.

Gotcha. Those big boy tires are expensive, I totally understand not wanting to daily them. Both directions sounds neat and I definitely enjoy the progress pictures.

The Tundra, I've come to find, is almost a perfect daily driver. Easy to get in and out of, decent ride, lots of interior room/headroom, great visibility, a seat that resembles a couch, and a bed for weekend projects. I think maybe 15 or 16 for mpg is the only real gripe besides no cruise control for interstate travel.
I may have to buy two of these one as the offroader, the other to keep for a DD. The short bed swap should be easier the second time around.

I agree. My dad has a 1st gen Tundra that he bought brand new in 2000 and I've always loved that truck. TBH sometimes I wish the Runner felt like the Tundra in a couple of ways, for instance the steering feel in the Tundra I think is the best of any truck I've driven. I think my only complaint is that they feel a little too light in the rear, which is an issue on most trucks, but I don't feel it's as bad on more modern pickups.
