I dont think we are blind to it. But like you showed, you have maintenance and basic upkeep, and after dumping the money into a vehicle to keep it running problem free for years you then went and bought another "unknown" vehicle. You can only expect to have surprise expenses up front, but if done correctly and in a timely manner these vehicles really do require low annual maint over the lifetime of the vehicle. If you think you will keep this one longer the only suggestion that I have considered would possibly be switching brakes the brakes out for 5th gen models as A)doesn't seem to be a problem with caliper freeze B)has already been done and documented and seems fair.
