Is the top dash material plastic and durable?

Looking for cell phone mounting solution and am thinking of using either an adhesive mount or suction cup mount on the top of the dash. Is the material painted plastic or is it a rubberized wrap type of material? I can't really tell 100% So I'm hoping you guys know.

I've seen some horrific photos where peoples dash was deformed or ripped up by these types of mounts because it was a wrapped material.

Its not smooth (go look) so suction is out and i wouldn't put any adhesive on it because it could act as a solvent.

Find another place.

Anyone ever tried the RAM mounts mounted with screws? Not thrilled about drilling into a dash but the idea of my phone not flying in an accident is worth it, I think.

Get a proclip mount, you'll never look back

CD Slot mount. No fuss no muss, insert in the CD slot, tighten one screw and you're done. If you don't use the CD player, great solution.

I have this one right above the clock and it works fine for me. It uses a magnet to keep it the phone in place. Haven't had any issues with it yet. Just wet the suction cup before mounting it.

Have a look through THIS post of my build thread. Imo this is the best spot for mounting devices, but yes, it did involve drilling 2 tiny holes in the plastic for the 3/8" sheet metal screws that keep the ball in place. Very solidly I might add.
The Radio and Tablet have their own mounting brackets. For my cell I use an x-mount.

Plastic, yes.

Durable? No. You can scratch it with your fingernail.

Brutal isn't it. Toyota really needs to look into a better material for that part of the interior.
