To start, I want to thank those who helped me out with this mod. Of course, in the end it seemed simpler than was made out to be, but when you're looking at something from a single perspective...well... you know :doh:
I know there are other ways to do this mod and this method is basically for adding an aftermarket circuit (complete - battery to fixture). This way I didn't have to change anything in the fog light circuit except to utilize the switch itself (no bent relay tabs or modified DRL connector/ground wire/etc., though I did cut the black/yellow wire... no more DRL's! Woohoo!!).
Also, by adding this circuit (which comes with a 30amp fuse & relay, and 14g wire), I can easily tap in additional lights that I would like to switch together, using the stock fog switch.
First, take of the lower dash cover and lower column cover (this one simply to double check the wire at the connector).
Locate the black/red and green/black in the wire bundle that comes down the column and across (the bundle should be running through a white plastic retainer, sorry, I didn't get a pick of that).
You can also see them going into the stalk connector.
Once, you've located these wires in the bundle and connector, I tested for continuity, just to confirm. I spliced into the switch a little further down the line (from new switch white/+ to black/red on fog switch, and blue/relay to green/black, you can see the new switch pic below), I didn't want to cut to close to the connector and also have to route some new wires around the column.
Getting the wire through the grommet was fun. I used a skinny flat head and hooked a #14 solid wire on the end and pushed through (being careful about other wires of course). Once through, I taped off the #14 to my new wire and backfed it in.
As Ozarks98Runner directed, making the breakthrough for me, I cut of the switch and spliced it into the fog switch wiring.
Mounted the relay here...
And Viola!! I now have a new circuit that is able to handle a larger load, and works off the stock left column stalk fog switch. And it is a Key Off switch, but if you need a reminder that it is on, perhaps you are a little too distracted!! :jk:
