ISR Mod Pics?

here's a link to my old pictures from Yotatech. I was one of the first along with Dr. Z to play around with the ISR Mod on the 3rd gens. Since I had the 2002 I found a different way to route the FPR hoses.

I replaced my ISR with an Injen Intake in September and love it. I gained back most of the power and gas mileage I lost when going from 265 to 285 tires.

Despite what the critics say the CAI has increased power and acceleration for my Runner.

Full intakes are awesome, and injen is the best of them. But for those that want to remain the stock airbox and its waterproffness (is that even a word?) then the ISR and deckplate are the best option.

i didnt notice any difference in noise or any different sounds coming from my enigne bay at all... it must be cause the SC is loud as hell, i need to do the nose cone assembly and replace the bearings on it.

I used to have the traditional cold air intake kinda like the one above but I hooked my code reader and it sucks in big time hot air usually 50 degrees hotter then the abiant temp. I was offroading the other day and it was 60 outside and the air going into the intake was 140! So ordered a new intake with a brand new box and the tube it has a clear lid. And it also gets full of mud and water when it rains

Progress!

Alright, so I've been working on the ISR Mod today, and got a good chunk of it finished! I'm gonna post pics of the work in progress, but still have to finalize a logo to put on it, as well as the rest of the paint work.

As most of you know, I'm thinking of going with a TRD logo in one of these color combos:

Or making my own Logo to personalize it:

The thing is...as much as I like the idea of personalizing it...my entire build is based on MY interpretation of what a TRD 4Runner should be....so having the TRD logo under the hood would help tie that in with the theme. Anyway, more on that later!

3" Exhaust tubing my buddy let me use:

One thing I noticed was that I needed to find a solution for the vacuum line fitting on the intake. Since I wanted to keep it as stock as possible, I decided to run the inlet off my ISR tube. However, the stock vacuum line was too short, so I used some tubing I had lying around and extended the tube an extra 3".

There is still some work to do with the Logo decision, and then actually putting it on the ISR, as I'm most likely going to paint it on. I'll keep you all posted on the progress, but hoping to finish this by Friday!

Ok, so I went a different route....kinda:

After adding what I found to be enough base coat, and a couple of coats of clear, I decided to mask out the area I wanted to put the emblem on.

As you can see....I decided to go with the TRD logo (really want to keep it within theme)

Unfortunately, upon pulling up on the tape...the paint lifted off the tube!!!

After getting a little upset, my wife suggested I simply cut out one of the paper emblems, and use it as a stencil, and then hand paint the TRD logo. I decided to give it a try, and traced it out with a sharpie. After tracing it out, I decided, instead of red...I'd go with black, and instead of Black paint, I'd just fill in my stenciled logo with the Sharpie!

I think I like it! It's not too flashy, kinda understated, but definately not stock! A lot like my truck!

I'm gonna spray a couple of coats of clear on that bad boy and call it a day!

Like I said, I'm not having any delusions of HP or MPG gains, I just think it will clean up that side of the engine compartment, AND have a little custom touch of my own under there.

My bad if I missed it but, what did you do for the vacuum fitting on that pipe? Did you just weld on a piece of tubing in the right diameter? Looks really clean and well done. You have good attention to detail. (I reread this post a few times and my question seems unclear even to me, I can't figure out how to reword it to make it more precise though, sorry)

It was clear for me! I simply used a piece of old brake line I had lying around in the garage, cut to length, drilled the hole in the intake tube (slightly smaller than the brake line), and then hammered it in the intake tube. It was on there good and tight, but I added some Superglue to seal up the area, before I painted the entire assembly.

I went this route, as it retained the stock vacuum line location, and I didn't have to weld the tube in. Much cleaner look (for me...my welding is not that great).

cool beans. thanks for the quick reply. This thread has made a new home in my bookmarks. I'll have to see about coming up with something clever like this if I ever decide the silencer has to go, and I'm feeling creative.

This thread inspired me to try out the TRD decal on my ISR, but that R is a PIA to get cut out!
I decided to go a little different route and create a "breathable" perforated ISR tube instead.......Just kidding! It's actually a perferated vinyl decal. I found this stuff "dumpster diving" of a nearby decal shop who specializes in body/window wrap decals.
