it finally happened killed my running boards, let's talk sliders now.

sooo here's where i'm at

i don't know how i feel about bolt on ones i'm on the fence, i'm not a hard core off road guy but do enjoy desert and muddy trail riding from time to time, and am pretty aware of what sort of ground clearance i got going on so i don't intend to be using the sliders more often then not (shouldn't a good driver always think like that?)

how much damage can bolt-ons deal with ,i know welding is the best and can take pretty much whatever you can throw at it but how much worse are the bolt on's are they even worth their weight in steel? i can get them welded on for a 12 pack but don;t like the idea of not being able to remove them very easily if i sale (buy a new 3rd gen) or and restore work that needs to be done.

with all of that said what are the best ones for the money that have the kick out and anybody make them from box tube? if the box tube comes out far enough i don't need the kick out.

looking at these right now

Check out 4xinnovations.com. $160 for HREW and $210 for DOM. They're weld on, but I'm sure you can make them bolt on too. They're 66" which is perfect and they have the kickouts.

you know what the differance is on these part numbers?

RS05-D
RS05-D-K

same price...but one would think one is a kit and the other is not, if so why no price difference, and any personal experience buddy or just something you've been eying?

thats a very good price though and thanks for chiming in your always a great help man.

I really like my All-Pro sliders. I believe they are still in the $269 range. I gave them quite the workout this past weekend. You play in the boulders you end up using them. In fact you actually plan some of your lines to use them to help pivot. If you are looking for square tube ones I onle know of two companies. DeMello Off-road but they think kick-outs are stupid and wont make them with it and are very expensive. The next company is a new guy just starting out, Jeremy a www.MercerFabrication.com from what I hear he does great work and is a good guy. I also like 4xInnovations and have heard lots of good things about him.

I have run with a guy that has 4xInnovations sliders and front bumper. His truck looks like a raisin but the sliders and bumper are still in good shape and protect very well.

Thanks. I'm not sure about the difference either, I was thinking the same thing. I've just been eyeing them ever since I saw them (in person) on j-money$$$'s truck. If you find out, post what they say about the difference. Pikeman's right about using the kickout to pivot, I saw him do it this weekend and it worked sweet.

i'm trying to keep it under $400 and i got almost free welding and powdercoating.

and i think i need the 66 inch ones since i have a 99 or is that false, for some reason i think we're talking about this before and decided the 66 where a better length, or am i wrong?

I think 66" is just about perfect since the span is like 67 or 68" on all 3rd gens. j-money$$$'s 66"ers went all the way across and were just short enough to not rub your tires on.

My All-pro's are 60" and work fine for length, protect well but I would not mind having the 6 extra inches the 4xInnovations offer. would fill the bottom just a little better. I would not go any shorter then 60" and they still look really good. IMO. Ok now for your sliders, a lot of people feel that powder coat is a bad thing. You will rub, scratch dent, scar these and cannot touch up powder coat. If you just paint them a few coats after you put some trail wear on them go home light sand and touch up with your rattle can.

I do really love the length of my sliders. Adam from 4xinnovetions is great to work with. If you want some pics I will take some and post them up. :)

I decided to not be lazy so i just went out and took a few pictures of my sliders enjoy:

The K means it has the kick out...its the one I got. The other one is identical, just no kick out.

not all the sliders are made equal.

Stubb's builds 3rd gen specific sliders. he makes them with 4 legs compare to others with 3, .175" wall compare to .120" wall.

here is the link,

But for about twice the price for the ones with kickouts, I personally have to question if the difference in strength is worth it. I could be wrong, but if the cheaper ones could hold say 10,000 lbs without bending and the expensive ones could hold 16,000 lbs - Then does it matter if the truck only weighs 5,000 lbs? They are both more than capable of supporting the truck, the expensive one is just overkill that you have to pay for right? (I'm making up #s here to illustrate the point, don't take those literally.)

I just got my savage sliders with the rear kickout delivered yesterday. I'll be painting them and getting them welded on next week. I'll post up some pics then. I'm very impressed with the craftsmanship. 4 legs and gusseted. Very beefy.

Yeah I guess you could run .250 wall chromoly too, haha they're just sliders. Even if they get a little dented they still serve their purpose well

.120 wall hrew is fine. the craftsmanship is more important, ex where the seam on the tube is located in bends

I know a couple guys running Trail Gear sliders that are approximately 10k times rougher on their equipment than you or I will ever be and they're going strong. Welding is way easier, but if done right bolt on can be stronger.

I dont have sliders yet, so this is just my 2 cents...

Its not about how much they can HOLD, you need to think that your runner will HIT down on them, so whatever the truck weighs PLUS the downward force added to that! Suddenly a 5000lb truck, will hammer down with 10000lbs of force.

Make sense?

and just for my own knowledge, does anyone make a bolt on? Just in case I want to remove them for any reason?

Yeah I get that, I was just making up whatever #s like I said. They would probably take a lot more force than that even. I've landed pretty hard on my shitty TG sliders lots of times and have yet to hardly even dent them and they're just cheapo Chinese HREW too. I'm confident that 4x's DOMs and even their HREWs would handle many years of abuse.
