I am going nuts with the huge amount of brake dust on the 2011 T4R LE. The front wheels are worse. Any suggestions? :drummer:

That's funny- I am pleasantly pleased with the
LACK of brake dust mine produces. What does show up wipes away easily.

Short of washing every few days, or swapping out your pads, there's not a heck of a lot you can do, unfortunately. I've heard of guys using dust shields, but doubt the effectiveness of them.

The dust is a symptom of the pad material shredding off as it comes into contact with the rotor. Some brake pads are worse than others — you should see how black Porsche wheels get after 20 minutes at the track. Metallic brake pads are the worst. Ceramic brake pads are the best as they have fewer metal particles, but may cause squeal, which is worse than the dust in my opinion.

Think of the dust as evidence your brakes are hard at work. Gentler stops will help too.

My wife has them on her Acura and the difference is night and day. You only need them on your front breaks though.... But if you had the extra $$ you could do all 4.

I use Akebono ceramics on my front and the brake dust that does accumulate takes quite a while to be noticeable and I don't have any squeal problems.

Happy to hear yours are NOT a problem!!

My 06 limited was fine, my 08 limited was somewhat a problem (leases)
I purchase the 2011 and get clobbered with break dust mostly with the front wheels. I may just look ito the creamic pads for the front.
Best of luck with your mods!! Will be copying some of yours at some point!!:thumb3:

Google "Bedding brakes"
Most likely you were too easy on your brakes when they were new and they are not bedded in or you have defective pads. I have very little brake dust with these at all and hav'nt seen many complaints on here. Google "Bedding brakes"

I get a good amount of brake dust on my fronts, but it's kind of hard to see on the limited wheels.

I just put a good coat of wheel glaze (detailers pro wheel glaze from autogeek), and it makes cleaning the rims really easy. The brake dust does not cling and hoses right off.

I agree, I used AKEBONO ceramic brake pads on my Honda Accord. When it's time to replace my pads on my 4Runner, I will go with AKEBONO for sure.

on my motocycle i spray it down with pledge...it helps alot and it basically comes off with just water...i havent tried on a truck yet...it would be alot more dust than just a small cycle... just a thought...
