Well guys its been fun but I'm moving on. I just traded my 2011 4runner Limited for a 2012 Touareg TDI. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

My needs have changed and the Touareg is just a better fit for me right now, especially with the TDI (the mpg I'm getting is crazy).

I liked the 4runner and it always did all that I asked of it, but there were some things that kind of annoyed me. Perhaps my Tundra spoiled me, but I found the 4runner to be a little on the sluggish side, and the brakes to be on the mushy side.

Other then that it's a great truck. Perhaps if I find myself in need of a purpose built, tough as nails off road rig, I'll be back. But for now I need something with a higher mall rating then the 4Runner.

I'll still drop in from time to time to check out what everyone is doing with their rigs. This is a great forum, and I really learned a lot about these amazing vehicles.

Enjoy your Treg. Very nice crossover.

Really attractive vehicles but I don't recommend keeping it beyond the factory warranty period (or grab a very very extended warranty).

Don't ask me how I know.:nerd:

Yeah the two are definitely two different animals. For a crossover it's not bad. Fit and finish is nice, and tows more then the 4Runner. Plus having 406 ft/lbs of torque is nice.

I've always had Japanese cars, so reliability was never a concern, but I'm fairly new to VW. In my research I could not get a solid consensus on how reliable these things are. Some never have a problem, some have nothing but problems. So even though it seems VW did a good job with the T3, I still got the extended warranty. Don't plan to keep it much longer after that.

Would be nice if Toyota would get serious and bring their diesels to the states. When I was in South Africa, you could get a Hilux (Tacoma), Fortuner / Prado (our 4Runner) and Land cruisers with Diesels. Oh well. Maybe I'll be back for a 6th gen.
 
I'd be sliding my ass into a Cayenne (or perhaps a Q7) long before I got in a Touareg - for relatively a few more Clevelands you get a longer warranty with better customer service.

Cayenne S (or Turbo S even better) is a mover...but not my cup of tea at all. Stay away from the Q7. They look cool but are really WAY too heavy for the engine they are running in that thing. Plus Audi is so flippin 'cliche' these days (in these parts anyway).

I actually came close to skipping the 5th gen T4R and going for the prestige brands (Cayenne Turbo or another Rangie) but decided I was done with that whole game...

Ditto.... Do NOT buy German, lease it...... It's a fabulous ride until you get out of warranty and crap starts breaking ..... Then it breaks again.....

I hope you got the V10 Diesel, that has enough torque to start a small moon.

+2 on the Audi, we have had two A4's and they are great when new, but as soon as the warranty runs out it cost a small fortune getting things fixed.
 
Why can't Toyota build a engine like the Ford V6 ecoboost in the f-150 pickups. Those things have tons of power and get better mileage than a smaller 4runner. Toyota seems content with the 4runner as it is and did not even give it a midcycle refresh. After driving a Tundra with that 5.7 a 4runner V6 will definately feel like a dog.

Ford might be exaggerating on MPG. Consumer reports got identical MPG in both the Ecoboost and V8 models in their road test.

I got the 3.0 V6 Diesel, which has more then enough power. They don't offer that monster V10 anymore that I know of, but I've heard the stories.

I had a conversation with the service manager at our dealer, and he is noticing that the VW is waking up and is trying to simplify their vehicles some. But German cars are still expensive to work on, especially anything with a TDI in it.

The good thing is VW offers a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty on the power train, and I purchased the extended warranty to cover all the other stuff during my finance term. So I feel "safe" for now.

Uhh, I think the TRD supercharger will be pretty close in idea to the ecoboost. I dont know if the TRD charger gets you better mileage though, but the power would definitely be there.
 
The point was if you're going to go the VW route - IMO - better to spend extra bucks and get better customer service and a longer warranty.
