Last night I'm happy to say I picked up my 2015 Trail premium brand new from local dealer. Got what I wanted although no KDSS but im easy going. White with black interior is amazing. I LOVED my 3rd gen to death but just one drive home in this new one and I sadly love this one more. Long story short I am happy and its time for some opinions on my lift plans. Primary use for this will be short trips to work. Hoping some good road trips so I do want it as perfect as possible on highway. The hook is I can't leave anything alone, I like things being balanced and ready to go for any obstacle. I am hesitant on wheeling to much big stuff as it is brand new, however, I bought it to enjoy it and use it so won't be long until I do.

Lift option and wheel ideas as I see it

1. 5100's with all stock coils. 1.75" front. Cornfed 1" rear. Keep stock wheels or go to nicer aftermarket wheel with 275's. I am sure minor trim and pulling of fender needed. In long run I really would like to keep my factory splash guards after removing steps

2. 5100/toytec kit with diff drop. Add LR UCA's so I can get caster 4* to keep highway smooth and planted. But go for 285's as I know the truck will look best. KMC Enduro or ATX Mojave wheels. Trim and pull back whats needed for rubbing

3. Stage 1 Icon kit. I always loved Icon suspension having a few sets in my F250 over past years. BUt is it needed for price jump in long term reliability. I want to set and forget once its in and aligned. I know there product is a great thing. I also know it will be years until I get my runner into a spot calling for rear locker alone. Being I wheel years without one on my 3rd Gen.
Again with 285's and wheels.

I am all for doing it once and right, but don't need to break the bank after just buying if I know im going to hardly test its capabilities weekly. I would like 285's. Everything I ever do mild or mid way, I end up changing and doing what I wanted after so that is why I am tempted for going full lift and UCA's. However I am sure looks handling and BRAKE DIVE will be better with good tires on stock wheels and a mild lift. Keeping great for highway trips and camping.

Thanks for reading! Hope to get some more direct answers being I have searched this to death

Well the cost is a bit much to swallow that's for sure but after going for 5100's and then piecing my icon kit together over time I REALLY wish I had gone Icon right off. There's no comparison for performance and I wasted money not just buying the full kit first thing.

The stage one isn't too bad at 1800 (or less during a group buy or offroad show etc) and is miles ahead of a 5100+spacer lift if you offroad.

Though one thing having the 5100s in the rear for a year before getting the rear icons. I got to experience exactly how much better the icons are.

But in the end I guess it does matter how much you really offroad it, and if you have a local icon rebuilder. Even though it shouldn't need it but once every 4 years or so (Again depending on how much you thrash them on the trail) but having a place you can drive into and then drive out of the next day with a rebuild was a big reason why I could put that concern to rest.

I just picked up the twin to yours about 2 weeks ago myself.

Before it even came in I had an ICON lift waiting on it. I am still waiting to install it just to get a couple thousand miles on the ODO. I did a lot of research on here and I am one of the type of people who operate under the "do it right the first time" and I felt that option was going to be meet my needs the best.

I too have an icon stage 1 waiting to go into my TE. About to pull the trigger on some 285s and run stock wheels for a bit. I am very excited to get it done here next month :)

Listen to Warthog..... just directly to ICON.....

PM me, I will get you a good deal on ICON..... (may have a couple quota left from my last GB)....

Having had 5100's installed on all 4 corners a year ago when my truck was new, and having just purchasing an Icon Stage 2 a few weeks ago, I completely agree with Warthog. Wish I had just bitten the bullet from the start. If you think you may want the Icon setup down the road, I'd do it now if it's in the budget. Just sharing my Boneheaded decision experience to help others avoid the same..Chas @ Total Automotive took excellent care of me on pricing and got the Stage 2 shipped very quickly. Good luck!

So I like the 5100s, I'm sure the Icons are nicer, but do they feel that much nicer? Like seat of the butt, they just feel better?

Beacon huh?? Well we're close and need to do some wheelin.

Sorry pic sucks. Took before I did paperwork and drove home. Yet to get anything yet. I need suspension done and figure out my wheel issues. Either stock or TRD pro with 275's.

As much as I love going big. Already I know my use mainly will be trips on highway and want to keep as smooth as I can. Also the wife has driven it more than I and I think I already lost it haha. Good thing our other vehicle is a 2015 TRD sport Tacoma. I did 5100's in when new. .85 setting for front to level. 265 BFG KO2's and TRD headlock wheels. Probably coolest truck we have had in a while and I have been through a LOT of rigs. So. Honestly Idc what I drive there both sick. Which is why that truck makes me love the feel of 5100's over stock. Keeping truck more stock looking yet just big enough a change to look mean yet drive as perfect as it can. Sadly although I love a big lift and all.

Might just go 1.75" front. 1" cornfed rear spacer (or 2 and 1 OME spacers to lift rear enough to not be low and lean fix). 275 BFG KO2 again I love the tire. Now wheel debate comes in. I'm all for TRD pro wheel. Or stock trails I do like. Not all blacked out for once is nice. But spacers scare the death out of me yet seem like best for looks as I'm wanting.

Was going to suggest trying 275s first since that wont require any serious modification.

And as for the ride, the Icons preserve the plush soft ride on the street very well. :) I was initially worried about that same as you, but it was for naught.

As much as I want to go all out and do icon and UCA's I just feel It's overkill for my need of daily driver and keeping perfect for wife to use too. Getting over going to big and loosing function. But understand quality stuff pays off. Is it possible to do Icon stage 1 and not do UCA's or will I deff need to reach the caster I will need. I'm sure it's always different. I think if I keep closer to a modded stock rig I'll be happy in long run.

I love my 5100/saw setup. Performs perfect on road and off. With that said warthog wheels in terrain I can only dream of here in Florida. I have mine set 2.5/1.5 on 275s and it is perfect! No UCAs required to achieve *3

On the lift height that you previously mentioned, you DO NOT need UCA. Hence ICON Stage 1 would serve you well. ICON Stage 2 is basically Stage 1 + UCA, by the way.

:-)

I like icon because they feel very nice on the road. It may be overkill for your off-roading, but they are such a refined shocks that they work great on a daily commute. Either way, you won't regret ICON. Hit up myself or TotalAutomotiveLV if you are interested in a hookup on ICON. We will beat anyone else out there.

Well to my view stage 2 goes longer travel and stage one is not but maybe they just "say" longer travel being with UCA's it allows more flex. But seems the same setup to me. Gonna keep sleeping on idea before I purchase.

You can get the LONG travel front with Stage 1 order, they are the same price. But you CANNOT make use of those "longer" settings, if you do not have a UCA. That's the reason why the typical Stage 1 do not come with the "long travel" version of their front.....

Stage 2 is just the same thing, but with the "long travel" version of the same front coilover shock plus an ICON UCA.

Congrats on the new truck! I looked high/low for a white one, but ended up with Att Black.

Also in the same boat with upgrades and went with your option 2. I'm only a week in, yet appears I made the right decision for the road-driveability (I have KDSS and will hit some light offroad today for more intel).

But....I still miss my 4th Gen. It was just a matter of time, yet that was a rock solid truck even though I have a new beauty.

Detail in my build thread. Good luck with your choices! Jealous of the white...but don't tell my 4runner.
