It's over. I'm done. Worst possible thing has happened. Pt. 2

What tactic should I use to combat the spider? (see descriptions below)

Poll options on how this intruder should be dealt with:

Option 1, BFAD's idea:
Seriously though... this is what I would do:

To kill the spider, you must understand the spider. What is your enemies primary motivation?

Food.

You need to draw him out. Tonight after it gets dark, leave your porch light on and catch a moth or some other small, fluttering insect. Put the sacrificial "lamb" in a small cup, go out to your 4Runner with a flashlight, and shake it out of the cup and into the web.

You have officially put a fresh kill at the entrance to the lion's den.

Stand back and watch as the spider emerges from its hiding place to feast. You will of course be standing by with some bug spray. As soon as he clears the dash by a few inches you nail him with the poison. The spider will probably attempt a hasty retreat once you blast him, so you'll have to have some way to knock him off the web quickly, or you'll have a spider corpse hidden up under the dash. I suggest a fly swatter, but a nice sturdy stick will work too.

Once you've got him off the web, you can watch sadistically as he writhes in agony and dies.

The end.

(PS... a video of the event would be most entertaining, I'm sure.)

Option 2, LittleCaesar's variation of BFAD's idea:

I'm with BFAD on how to catch it, but see if you can find some of those traps, place the food in the middle right before dark on the floorboard, then see what happens.

Option 3 (otherwise known as the wrong option), is to leave the spider alone.

I made this thread mostly because there seems to be people still posting in the other one, but the last page of that thread is buggy, so no one can see the new posts and the mods are not able to fix it.

And, I also made this new thread because.... it's happening again :jaw drop::ybrick:

Here's a link to the old thread http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...m-done-worst-possible-thing-has-happened.html, and here's the recap from last time:

Well, it's time to move on from my 4runner. I need to either sell it, or have it towed to a junkyard for destruction, or maybe just set it on fire right where it sits. I know you're probably thinking: "That sounds a little harsh. What, did the pink milkshake strike? Timing belt let go? Threw a rod? All of the above simultaneously?" No, my friends, what has happened is so much worse. You see, I have found strong evidence of.... a spider living in my 4runner.

Now, I'll be the first to admit that spiders are my kryptonite. Maybe you are more of a man than me, and can sleep with thousands of black widows as a comforter and feel perfectly relaxed, but I am just not that cool. Spiders make me their *****. So imagine the horror when I opened up my 4runner today and saw webs all over the place (strong exaggeration, but I did see multiple webs, concentrating on the drivers seat area.. FML). Notice how I said evidence, and not "I found a spider living in my 4runner." That means the little creepy crawler motherf'er is still in there somewhere, waiting for me to get in and take it for a spin so it can strike.

And do you even know how many places there are inside of a 4runner for a spider to hide? No, you don't. And that's not because someone hasn't tried to count them all before, it's because there's TOO MANY F***ING PLACES TO EVEN BEGIN TO COUNT!

So, I ask, what the hell do I do in this situation? I tried tracking down the little spider terrorist by following his webs, but I'm no crocodile dundee. What's the average life span of a spider? Can I just wait it out until it dies? What about those fumigation bomb things you can buy at Walmart? Can I close up all the windows and let one of those rip in my 4runner? Or do I just...

BREAKING NEWS

So I went outside earlier to put Operation Spider Sauna into effect, and I saw that my enemy had set up some more webs around my 4runner. I decided to try to track it again to see if I could find it... well look what we have here!

Having found the creature of my nightmare, just sitting there, oblivious to the fact that I was plotting his demise, I had to come up with a damn good plan to annihilate him. I thought of using Raid first, but I didn't want the overspray to cover everything above and behind the seat belt, so that was out as an option.

My next thought, was maybe I can just slam my fist into the seatbelt hard enough that it will crush him right where he hangs. This sounds like a good plan. I'll just hammer fist the whole seatbelt assembly, in the direction of the red arrow in this picture:

I worked up the courage to bring my fist that close to the little monster, and boom! Complete and utter failure. That part of the seat belt doesn't pivot like I thought, so it didn't crush him at all.

On to the next plan, which is best summed up in just this one picture:

:faint2: I really hope that spider was photoshopped in ^

I think some of the new posts in the last thread were about this: 870k Toyotas recalled for spider-related problem - Oct. 17, 2013

If that's not proof enough that all spiders are evil and they're out to get you, I don't know what is!

I'm currently working on a game plan for this new spider. He seems to be more highly trained in the art of spider stealth than the last combatant. This one will be a challenge!

That sucks.. I'm just glad my 4runner isn't infested with 8 legged freaks like yours is.

I use to love that movie haha.

You know what this means, don't you? The first spider was a momma. It laid eggs. They hatched.

I've never seen 8 legged freaks, but I've seen Arachnophobia. I'm so glad I don't have a basement!

That thought did cross my mind though. But, I'm pretty sure I know where this one came from. I transported a new (to me) grill in the back of the 4runner a couple weeks ago, and the day after I did that, I actually had a visual on this spider. He must have known I was coming for the grill, and hid long enough for me to load it into the back of the 4runner, then made his move and set up base camp.

I loathe spiders so much. Strangely when I look at the pictures of spiders on computer, I goes like mental illness and can't breathe. Seriously. I cant stand look at spiders on the screen. I dont act like that when I see spiders in real life.

FCUK Spiders!

I'm with you! Although there is probably going to be 20 pictures of spiders on this page now that you've said that. You might not want to check this thread again haha.

If it makes you feel any better, it is a common orb weaver spider and is perfectly harmless. Unless, of course, it is the Australian variety because those things are the size of your hand and can take down birds.

Anyway, back to your spider infestation. Orb weavers come out at this time of year in droves. I have quite a few of them taking up residence in my back yard. Worst case scenario? He gives you a little nibble and you develop some sort of superhero power of being able to cast webs. Better than a winch on your bumper.

Take a trip up here to Canada during a cold week in the winter, leave truck overnight, and BAM problem solved instantly.

Or see if any company has a garage sized freezer you can leave your truck in for a while!

I think I would need to ship the 4runner to Canada to do that one. No way I'm getting in that thing now that I've read that link that kenski posted.

I dunno what you're freaking out about. Spiders are completely harmless. Isn't that right Antman?

WHAT. THE. ****.

Seriously. I was fine with this spider until I read that. We had an unspoken agreement. He was going to stay in the passenger side footwell and not disturb me, and I was going to take my time formulating a plan to end his existence.

But now!?! No, I'm not driving the 4runner, not with him in there! Not after seeing that. :yield:

This has just become my #1 priority in life. Curing cancer will have to wait.

I've tried and tried.. I can't seem to figure it out.

The spiders. They've infiltrated the site's server. They don't want me figuring out how to battle them :hiding:

That was the last one though. This one looks different. I just barely caught a glimpse of him, but he certainly wasn't yellowish like the first one. And more importantly, why do spiders that big even exist?! That should not be real.

Again at least you don't have to battle Brown widows, black widows, and brown recluses on a regular basis.

I've become a deadly spider specialist in my area now sad to say.

I'm pretty okay with spiders and I would still feel a little weird with one living in my car.

I had a BLACK WIDOW living in my motorcycle for a couple weeks. Tried to track him down for the longest time, and I finally snuck out in the garage in the morning and saw it, so I sprayed it with carb cleaner and it pretty much immobilized the thing. I was able to finish the job from there.

I just had a thought though. If you get a can of canned air and turn it upside down, you could probably freeze the thing to death without getting near it. Of course, you have to find it first, but you could at least spray it without damaging your car.

I'm entrenched in a constant battle against brown and black widows at my house actually. They just haven't made it into my 4runner. At least I seriously hope that's not what's in there right now.

I like your style, sir. I was just thinking about how I would kill it if it was in a location I couldn't crush it in. I didn't want to spray Raid, or something similar, in my vehicle, so I just might try that!

And yeah, spiders are sneaky little bastards! I might try a night ambush on this one, we'll have to see.

Sorry buddy, that's definitely not an Orb Weaver, you wouldn't find it inside a vehicle if it were, and they don't make the webs like in the pictures. Looks more like a common house spider, also harmless. I have some kind of crazy metallic black and orange jumping spider in the cargo area of my truck that I see occasionally, once with a small roach in its grasp so she kind of pays rent.

I had a pet Goliath Bird Eater once, with about 15 other species of tarantulas and true spiders.... she ate fully grown mice and was about 11" legspan. I don't have any pics handy, just google images of Theraphosi Blondi if you aren't familiar lol.
