It's over. I'm done. Worst possible thing has happened. Pt. 2

What tactic should I use to combat the spider? (see descriptions below)

My sister, who has serious Arachnophobia, probably to even a higher degree than Kraze, uses these catch traps all over her garage. I think in a month last year she had caught over twenty spiders. Work well for Palmetto bugs and rats as well.

Alright guys, we definitely have a problem. As you can see (kinda) in this first picture:

The webbing is very minimal. I had high hopes that the spider was an average American one, meaning it was obese and lazy, and hopefully over-exerted itself making that web and crawled off somewhere and died.

But as we can see from this latest picture:

All of those shiny things you see in the picture, is the spider's webbing. He is making an advance into more of my territory.

Now, I'm pretty sure the spider spends most of it's leisurely time up somewhere in that passenger side dash/behind the glove box. This presents a big problem. No way in hell am I sticking my face under there to attempt to locate him. There's way too great of a risk of this little bugger dive bombing me in that scenario. Can you imagine if Antman would have been bitten on the face!? Yeah, no way am I taking that risk.

So, I need a plan. Suggestions?

Sorry buddy, that's definitely not an Orb Weaver, you wouldn't find it inside a vehicle if it were, and they don't make the webs like in the pictures. Looks more like a common house spider, also harmless. I have some kind of crazy metallic black and orange jumping spider in the cargo area of my truck that I see occasionally, once with a small roach in its grasp so she kind of pays rent.

I had a pet Goliath Bird Eater once, with about 15 other species of tarantulas and true spiders.... she ate fully grown mice and was about 11" legspan. I don't have any pics handy, just google images of Theraphosi Blondi if you aren't familiar lol.

But... WHY?!?!

Those bugaboo spider traps are intriguing. That is moving high up on my list of possible solutions. Thanks for the link!

Sorry buddy, that's definitely not an Orb Weaver,

It sure as hell is, that's a giant golden orb weaver. Also called a wood spider, or banana spider.

And that picture is misleading - that's a VERY small bird. But still, them are big spiders, and they are known to eat small birds and amphibians.

Keep your skirt on. Just go back inside and ask your husband/boyfriend to find the spider, and smash it with a paper towel.

I prefer to call it a kilt, thank you. And I will definitely not keep it on! I will at the very least change to jeans. The kilt offers up way too many entry points for the devil spider.

Seriously though... this is what I would do:

To kill the spider, you must understand the spider. What is your enemies primary motivation?

Food.

You need to draw him out. Tonight after it gets dark, leave your porch light on and catch a moth or some other small, fluttering insect. Put the sacrificial "lamb" in a small cup, go out to your 4Runner with a flashlight, and shake it out of the cup and into the web.

You have officially put a fresh kill at the entrance to the lion's den.

Stand back and watch as the spider emerges from its hiding place to feast. You will of course be standing by with some bug spray. As soon as he clears the dash by a few inches you nail him with the poison. The spider will probably attempt a hasty retreat once you blast him, so you'll have to have some way to knock him off the web quickly, or you'll have a spider corpse hidden up under the dash. I suggest a fly swatter, but a nice sturdy stick will work too.

Once you've got him off the web, you can watch sadistically as he writhes in agony and dies.

The end.

(PS... a video of the event would be most entertaining, I'm sure.)

The picture with the bird is an Orb Weaver, I meant the OP's visitor isn't (wasn't, rather) a weaver. If you look at the picture of the OP's spider, you can easily see the leg and body structure are very different from the weaver's and it's a dull brown color. Between that and it's very secluded choice of dwelling, it's obviously not an Orb Weaver.

That's an OW that's outside my house right now, compared to the OP's spider....

And since we're on a spider kick.... I found a couple pics of Molly

Pure brilliance. You, sir, have the kind of problem solving skills that I wish our government had (no more posts related to politics after this one though; I am allowed the only one since I am the OP!).

This is the new plan, boys. Although it will not be tonight, as I already have other plans. And I will do my best to get a video of it as well. No guarantees on that one though.

Lmao. I will be watching that movie. Looks hilarious!

And I am going to pretend like I didn't see the post before this one. But my nightmares will surely remember it for me.

Who knew that Kraze's phobia would dwarf his build page, etc. on this board. At least he was man enough to share it.

I'm with BFAD on how to catch it, but see if you can find some of those traps, place the food in the middle right before dark on the floorboard, then see what happens.

Also a good plan. My logical side is telling me I should go with this, but the side of me that wants to entertain the forum tells me I should go with BFADs. Hmm, I am conflicted here.

Thanks! I'll count on your vote in November '16.

There's only one way to be sure... Add a poll to the thread. Let the people choose.

Personally, I'd like to see some close combat.

I like BFADs idea, but I'd use brake cleaner and a lighter. That way the web he's crawling on burns up and he can't get away.

Great idea!!! That would negate the part about knocking the spider off it's web w/the fly swatter.

It might be a little tricky to do it that way without torching his interior, though. :flame:

A poll has been added so the the people can decide.

I was working on an elaborate plan that was something along the lines of that. I was going to use the upside down compressed air to freeze the interior panels, and anything that looked important, then torch the whole area with some starting fluid and a long lighter, hoping that the now very cold panels and various plastic pieces would not melt. I deemed it to be unsuitable though... because really, how am I going to get a good video of a huge fireball!? The light will throw off the camera and we won't see anything, and that would just be unacceptable.

I assumed he'd be sterilizing the inside of the truck with fire anyway, this just gives him a head start.

ok, after about 30 min. tinkering with it I think I fixed your original thread. It works for me now, someone else try it.
