JayRolla's Build Thread! Pics!

Cheap eBay led headlights. 120W 12000LM FAN CREE LED 6000K WHITE bulbs. $25.99. 5 year warranty.

100 times better than my stock halogens. Hi beam not the best but low beam is great. Little bright up close but throw is good. Cutoff is horrible but hoping not an issue. So far no one has flashed me.

Where did you get those bulbs from.... era which seller ?

Well before I could work on my truck wife made me clean hers. Washed, gased, fluids topped off and tires inflated.

Did my plugs. They been in there for at least 6 years and 100k+ miles. I developed a mid to wide open throttle hesitation/misfire.

One thing you always want to clean out the plug valleys before removing plugs due to debris falling into cylinder which can cause spark plug blowout.

The one white/ clean plug was wet and smelled like gas. Guessing that was my bad plug and hesitation. Rear plug on passenger side was a pain. It seized up and required BP blaster and lots of work. I had to get out the 1/2" wrench and pray out came out. And it did without destroying the threads.

Also cleaned air filter while it was out. After all said and done the misfire is completely gone. Car starts up a lot easier and feels super smooth.

Also when spraying down my talon I noticed one spark plug wire was loose. Pulled it out and valley was full of water and was deep red. Pure rust. Used compressor to clean it out. That sucks. Lol.

Where are you in CO? Me and my wife were just saying we need a road trip the other day, and CO has been on my list. Not sure when I'll be able to slip away from work, but I good 4 day trip up there with the dogs would be great. Any suggestions?

Wow , that is cheap . Do you still have the original 96 headlight housing or did you update to the 99+ ?

I'm on the older housings. I will say they may be to bright. Adjusted them down even more.

Anywhere you go is great. I'm from Colorado Springs. I suggest Telluride, CO. Its one of the most beautiful parts of CO.

Well after a long look finally found the wife her new vehicle to replace her 1998 Ford Expedition 5.7l triton Eddie Bauer edition she has owned for 10 years. The expedition has done us well. Only a failed fuel pump and heater flapper in 18 years and 160k miles. Fuel mileage was 10-12mpg in the city.

It took us such a long time to find one because we both were stubborn. We put our budget at $20k. She wanted 2012-2015 Double Cab Tacoma for the upgraded bumper, grill, headlights and interior. Ohh and she wanted pyrite mica. I wanted TRD Off-road. 20k, pyrite, 2012+, TRD OR turned out to be impossible task.

So we ended up with this.

2012 Double Cab Tacoma Sr5
144K miles
1 owner
Zero accidents
4 years, 26 service records local toyota dealer
$18500

Nice taco and 4runner. I was wondering how the tacoma compares to your 4runner. Like performance and comfort. Ive always liked the look of the tacomas and would like to buy one, but wondered how they compared to the 4runners. Thanks in advanvce.

I have a lot done to my 4runner. I have also done a lot to freshen up the entire front end. I thought it drove pretty good. Under powered but good driver.

The tacoma is night and day better. My kids literally said "why is it so smooth?" on first test drive. Then said it feels like floating on air. Again they are used to my 4runner and my wifes worn shocked 99 Ford Expedition.

Power is so much better, shifting is smoother, suspension rides good, brakes hit hard. Everything is night and day better.

I jumped in mine this morning and was very sad.

Well 3rd gen is taking a back seat to this Tacoma. I'm going to drive it to work. Moab and some trails. Thats about it. The way I see it, the 4runner is finished.

Time to build the Tacoma.

I did the same thing about 5 years ago. I still am very happy with my 3rd gen and wouldn't trade it for anything. Though I loved my Tacoma a ton and did everything with it, I'm glad to have someone i'm not as concerned with damaging, and can fix with my eyes closed with a swiss army knife on the side of the road and some gum.

I can see it now you'll be over in the 5th gen section soon :(

Naw, it wont go that far. But wife did try to say maybe in 4 years she will give me the Tacoma and she will go get her TRD Pro 4runner. She has a new truck for 3 days and already picked out her next one. LOL.
