Jeep people get a bad name

But sometimes it's deserved. I was out at hidden falls on some trails and some AJP (Austin Jeep People) let me tag along and were cool and nice and all.. Told me to join their group so I requested. I got turned down by an admin and his reason was "you don't have a jeep".... Okay.... We allow jeeps to run with us at FJ fallout lol but you want to dictate based on a vehicle?

In my opinion we're all enthusiasts of the same hobby so we should all unite and keep it going. I guess not everyone agrees but I have never thought less or differently of someone based on a vehicle. I have gone with f-150s.. Subarus.. Jeeps.. Everything. Mitsubishi.. I don't get why it matters. We are all out for an adventure, are we not?

I have a modified Jeep. Even among Jeep people there are elitists. I am not running dual Dana 60's with minimum 37" tires.

I have also met elitist Toyota's , Range Rover's, Ford and Chevy people. Have never met an elitist offroad Subaru owner. Offroad Subi owners seem fun.

I have also met elitist Toyota's , Range Rover's, Ford and Chevy people. Have never met an elitist offroad Subaru owner. Offroad Subi owners seem fun.

Then I reckon I am not an "elitist" fan. No one is better than anyone. And yeah that subie dude was fun haha

I can understand being turned down membership from a "jeep" club.

But to just tag along with a group doesn't seem terrible.

I've noticed that jeep guys have a stereotype (stereotypes aren't always 100% accurate)..usually of very high income, floor it over obstacles because they're not geared properly, almost always 2-3 that snap axles like twigs over little stuff, and they almost always freak out on the trails.

Just watch 95% of youtube vids and the spotter is going crazy "STOP STOP STOP!!" "NOO DON'T GO THAT WAY, DRIVER DRIVER DRIVER NOWW!" "GET YOUR HANDS INSIDE THE WINDOW!" ....etc etc.. Just gives me anxiety watching. And it'll be over something little, like a log.


But I wheel with jeep guys and they're cool as fuk. I think that it's the noobs that think a jeep is the say all, end all.. Then they take em out with zero experience and go bananas.

Edit.. I can go out in the middle of nowhere...and be the only person within 100 miles... And magically, there's always a jeep going the opposite way, back down the trail...because they broke something.

A club is a club. If I drove a classic Camaro I wouldn't expect to be allowed in a Porsche club. Tagging along for rides is one thing but diluting the "common interest" aspect of the club only defeats the purpose. That said, I used to be an active member of a Miata club. I wanted to go drive curvy roads with the top down, but the club was more about who's elected President, Treasurer, Event Coordinator and all that crap. A lot of us quit participating, some got S2000s and BMWs and we all went driving fast on curvy roads. Then there was my similar experience with a MINI club, and then the Jeep club. Most car clubs aren't worth it. Forums are great and FB groups are fine.

why would they tell you to join their group, if they knew you had to have a jeep to be accepted? that's just odd.



once, years ago wheeling with a larger group. friends had invited friends, so there were people we all didn't know. one happened to be in a grand Cherokee. he had a "Toyota recovery" sticker on his window.
well, he got stuck. very badly. I think ended up breaking an axle also. he needed help. I had the most capable vehicle, so they asked me.

I said sure, "no problem". then added as a joke, "after I pull him out with my Toyota, he has to scrape off that sticker". lol.

well, he declined my help completely. ohwell..
whoever had invited him, and their friends stayed to help him out, the rest of use continued on with our trip. don't think we ever saw them again...

Another question is why would you even want to be in a club titled "jeep people"?

I love Jeeps I have had alot of them all modified all very capable off road. My oldest son just traded off a 2004 Rubicon for a better on gas car for college... He will regret that decision but live and learn.... I also love my 4runner. Its the elitist who make us all look bad be it jeep or 4runner ppl...

Believe it or not, I recently got a couple of waves from some Jeep owners. One was well built with signs that it was an actual wheeling rig. He waved to me but I figured he was waving to another Jeeper but when I looked around, there were none to be found. I felt bad for not waving back lol. Today while in the truck I felt like my truck got eye f****d with a couple of head nods from the guy driving it. All he had on it were wheels and tires. They were probably freshly installed and he was feeling good about it. It was clearly not a real wheeling rig. I find that real wheelers understand and will give a wave or a head nod regardless of what the vehicle is. I have quite a few friends I like to wheel with who have serious Jeeps as well. There will always be those people out there who think that it's a one way street. You won't find me waving to every stock or mildly modded 4Runner out there. Does that make me an "elitist"?

I have to say, your post hits home because there are elitists no matter where you end up. The 4Runner group of folks is by far my favorite, users are far more humble than the other vehicle forums I visit.

Supra forums are full of major elitist types. My workplace is also full of these types, it's sickening.

This urban dictionary definition sums up the arrogance really well, this was written by a user named "realelitist." Would hate to be around this person, reading it makes me cringe.
