Overland West was just a solo trip and a warm up before the Halko family road trip of the year. This year we plotted our course to head up to Grand Teton and Yellowstone parks, we hotel'd it in Jackson and camped going up and back. It was 1683 miles over 8 days, the truck said we averaged 18.2 which is astonishing given the load and brick on top.

Decided to go through Rocky Mtn National Park and trail ridge road to start the trip. Saw a modified 5th gen with a Tepui on top, waved and the truck looked familiar but no idea if they are on here.

We were near flaming gorge, I think that was in Utah, we had been through Dinosaur National Monument the day before and stopped for this photo of the dam... cool area.

We then got to Jackson and spent three and a half days around Grand Teton and Yellowstone, just when nerves fray, you see something amazing and it pulls everything back together!

We saw Old Faithful and a few other things, it's so great having a refrigerator, I feel like it really allows us to spend time on seeing and doing things versus interrupting fun for long meals. A very fast efficient trip, we'll go back but it was great to see the main things in Grand Teton and Yellowstone.

Left Jackson and chose a very remote way to get back to Colorado, wifey was not as on board, certainly as we went through Wyoming. As soon as we got into Colorado and on a really remote back road she changed her opinion and went on and on about how beautiful things were. This was the families favorite camp spot on the trip, we took the rain fly off and unzipped the top for the sky view, a full moon above, it was pretty darn awesome.

The weekend after getting back from the road trip we decided to do an overnight up at Chinn's lake, family motivation was not at my level. Got up there and found a nice spot away from folks, then it poured with lightning, then it go super windy. My wife despises sleeping in the RTT with wind, daughter was complaining, so we bagged it and drove home, it wasn't worth the fight and I still got to do the offroading to get up there.

I doubt I'd go up there again unless I knew it would be really cold, rather crowded and I like to get further away from people.

Now to start planning some fall travels and finish off a few mods I've got sitting in the garage. About that winch...

I haven't been out much, a couple quick camping overnighters but no offroading. After seeing pics from the annual Cover trip I had to get outside, it was super cold in the mountains though mostly a clear night. I took a Friday off work and went exploring...

I used the awning room, also had a big fire, decided sleeping in the truck would be best so had planned for that.

It was a great day and half, tons of exploring and while a cold night a camping it was still awesome. Also used my new Garmin InReach that I picked up on a group buy, my wife loves it, she doesn't worry as much now!

Oh and last weekend we tailgated for the Bronco game, the tailgating has been much better than the games. At least we've had great weather and I've kept the fridge in much later this year, cold beer and stuff for the tailgating, oh yeah!

Yeah, left Friday with stops at the Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, Road Kill Cafe on 66, Santa Fe and now here. From Santa Fe, we took some back way on 285 to Walsenburg. Awesome drive.

Plan to hit some tomorrow, any recommendations?

My favorites are Oscar Blues, Avery, and Great Divide, that is based on beers not location, though Great Divide is the furthest as it’s downtown. I also like to go to the massive Breck brewery location down south but mostly because it’s very close to my house, not worth driving from up there.

That would have been awesome, but with all of the sights and driving, we have had a tight schedule. One day I hope to do some trails in CO. If you're heading to ExpoWest again, we'll have some cold ones. Enjoy the holidays.

Thanks for documenting your progress here, looking good. I also have a silver 2011 Limited. I just got bolt on sliders from the All Pro GB, but I'm asking about XREAS. It looks like you initially kept it but later switched out all your shocks and removed the system. Is that right? Your trim conversion is well covered here, but any experience putting the sliders between the frame and XREAS dampeners and plumbing?

I replaced the suspension before I put the sliders on. With the shrockworks sliders they fit with the damper and lines for xreas still in place as we just disconnected the shocks and didn’t get around to removing the lines. I don’t know that the All pro sliders are compatible with xreas, you’d have to check their site, though it’s still possible you could make it work.

My 265 Duratrac’s were showing a lot of wear, we’re getting pretty loud, and I wanted to go to 285’s. Decided to try to pick up some trail wheels, I like the design and they are commonly available on Craigslist. Was able to score a set of the newer trail wheels from an awesome guy near me (he had a sweet land cruiser and a trailer he built himself!)

New wheels and tires, I forgot how quiet Duratracs are new, so nice! Also washed it up as it was gross!
