Ouch. Wish I had a chance to talk to you before you fabbed that latch. I ended up cutting mine off and had some suggestions for you...

Don't get me wrong... it looks good. Just when you pull a trailer its gonna piss you off in a hurry.

Yeah, I remember we talked about that a while back on the scouting trip in west Texas, you had to jackknife your trailer to get the swing arm open all the way if I remember correctly. And since my trailer is for sale, I'm hoping it wont be a problem. :bigok: Plus I want to run two jerry cans on the swing arm and I needed the length for that.

On a separate note about the latch, I had been trying to find a latch like yours, and I think I did. It just happened to be on ebay and I won it for $1.99, but $8 for shipping of course. :nono: It seems like it will work very well, and I can put a pin in it for extra peace of mind it wont come un latched going down the highway.

I think you will be pleased with the latch, but it will squeek a little bit with the weight on there... nothing to worry about. I have a little job for your brother, if he is interested. I need a cap with a grease cirque fabbed for my spindle.

He can do it, but why not just disassemble the spindle and clean and pack with new grease?

The cap I understand, I have been thinking about that too.

Small update.

Today we built some holders for the jerry cans and mounted it on the swing arm; we also did a little bit more welding in places that were only spot welded.

I will work on the bumper some more this weekend, hopefully I will have it finished on Sunday.

We got all the welding a fabricating done today! I ran out of daylight to get some primer on it, but I hope to get it all painted up this week. We got the shackle mounts on today, finished up with the latch, drilled and taped holes for the license plate and light, and finished the jerry can holders.

I will get some better pictures of everything once its painted and mounted on my truck. I will be painting it with the truck bed liner just like my front bumper.

It bolts to the frame using the 8 bolts that were used with the receiver hitch. Plus two more I added, Its on there - not going anywhere!

Not sure of the weight, but we were conscious of that throughout the build and used thinner and lighter metal where we could (anything not load bearing). So with everything on the bumper, spare tire and jerry cans, (full) it sags a full 2 inches in the back. Not too bad since one full jerry can weighs about 40 lbs, (gas is roughly 8lbs per gallon) so its an additional 80 lbs with two of them. I may upgrade to the 891 coils when I redo the front suspension. Which will be pretty soon hopefully.

Great work, I like it much better than the CBI. You do very nice and detailed fab work, makes me want to start making something too.

I'm selling my 891's as soon as I get my LC coils in. I don't carry any gear in the back, so they are too stiff for me. I bought them new at the end of may this year, so pretty new. PM me if you are interested.

update: painted

left early from work today to take advantage of the nice weather, got the everything painted with the truck bed liner stuff, snapped a few pics with my iphone. I think the texture shows pretty well even with the crappy cell phone pics. Its drying now, and i probably wont mount it until Thursday due to work, but I will post those pics when I do.

All in all everything turned out pretty good, the finish is nice and Im happy with it.
