Quick question for you harper, while I was under hofs05's truck getting all the mud out of the under carriage I was looking at the rear set up (track bar ect). Do all those components need to be replaced if she were to have me lift her rig? Or are just the springs fine? Im only familiar with tacomas...

Is it possible to use only the Trail Edition rocker panels on a Limited Edition without replacing all the other plastics? I'd just like to make some room for bars.

Harper - 2 questions if you get a chance.
Have you considered relocating the transfercase switch - replacing with the dual cupholder? I haven't actually seen a 4R with the dual cupholder, but the part is available in the catalog and the owners manual shows it. I would replace the switch with a rocker type switch - as there's really on 3 modes, 4x4h, locked 4x4h and locked 4x4l. I would retro the center diff to an OE switch in one of the blanks, that would only require a rocker switch between low and high.

Also, since you've completely removed the 2nd row before - have you been able to compare the flip up seats to a 4R with the 3rd row? I have been wanting to convert my 4R seats to flipup - but would like to compare. Only people with 5G's around here have 3rd row

Yes, I did consider relocating the 4x4 transfer switch at one time. But I was going to keep the OEM switch and move it to the left of the steering wheel ,below the switches,and extend the wires. I was going to use the area it is in now to make an angled dock for a 10 inch touch screen laptop ,like a Ipad ,at an angle.

You could use a 3 position switch rather then the oem one though as that's all the oem really is with 4 wires I believe running to it.

As far as the 2nd row compared to the 3rd row interior . It is almost completely different and takes different side panels,seats,airbags,wiring,ect . to be done right.

It would be too expensive to buy the parts(must be plastic coated gold) so you would need to find somebody to swap or find one that was totaled in a junk yard.

Thanks for the reply. The only reason I was thinking about a 3 way rocker or a seperate center diff and a single hi/low rocker was space reasons. There is no reason to have a huge knob.

For the backseats, the only thing I want to change or retrofit it the seat bottoms. The seat bottoms bolt to the body and have hinges on the non-3rd row. In the 3rd row 4Runners, they are stationary and slide with the entire seat. Minus a piece of fabric that velcros the seats together and the headrests that fold. I should be replace the seat bottoms and fab up mounting points for the 4 hinges. That's my thought anyways

I haven't done anything to it lately except enjoy it.Still have the fog /HID retrofit half done . I have to take the front back apart for the umphteen time to get them finished with the aiming.Also,saving my money up for mechanical stuff like regearing with 4.56's and ARB locker(s). Nitro and JD's are supposed to have the gears out for our new 8.2 rear ends at the end of the month.Almost blew the money I have saved for them on a Shrockworks bumper but held out for now! Man those are sweet!

I just got back into mountain biking after a little health scare(heart).The weather here is so perfect this time of year and spending most of my free time riding my FSR when I'm not chauffeuring the kids around or working overtime.I'm from back east and the summers here in Texas are brutal for us yankees but it's hard to beat fall thru spring!

Hi Charley ..........it's 10" x 14" with about a 3/4" bend on forward and aft sides to stiffen it.

This is the best 5 gen 4 runner i have ever seen! besides the front and rear TE bumpers and mud flaps was there anything else needed to do the swap? The rocker panels came off clean? Did you paint the fender flairs?

This 4runner makes me envious everytime I see this thread. I was wondering how you got the plate to stay in place for the stinger voltage meters? looks like you just bent a lip for it so it doesn't really have any support. How are those meters mounted as well? I know you said they just sit there in place.

Does yours just sit in there?

More Mods.......I had to run a bunch of wires thru to my center dash for my CB,Isolator switch and Isolator status light so I wired up a couple of Volt Gauges while I was at it. They are wired directly to each battery to better get their true readings.Used my Fluke meter to calibrate them.

I fabbed a piece out of 2024-T3 aluminum that I cut holes in for the gauges and painted it satin black to match the other interior pieces. The volt meters are made by Stinger and I bought one in red LED and one in blue since I have one red battery and one blue battery so it makes it simple.They sit in place of that bottom storage hole that I never used anyways.

I cut it so it sits down in where the cubby hole was and is a tight fit. Then that 8-10" trim piece down below on the console holds it tight forward.
