Just bought a 2015 Trail Premium. What should my first upgrades be?

My use is a weekend/daily driver and long trips, with at most going on some fire roads or easy, light trails. So at that, these are excellent in stock form. But if there was one mod I would do, it would be tires. I am waiting for my tires to need replace before getting new tires (or before my grand trip to Alaska, what ever comes first).

I have factory running boards, but I am not planning on ever doing any serious off-roading, not now at least. I was going to get rid of them, even put them for sale on this forum, but changed my mind when I noticed how nice they look, and that my wife and MIL uses them.

I think not so much major mods, but little things are useful; some extra lighting especially in the back, off-road accessories like a strap and hi-lift jack with knowing how to use these things to get yourself out of a situation, and those roof top tents are pretty cool also.

What should I do?

Drive your vehicle and enjoy it and learn how it works and its capabilities.It is extremely capable off road "as is" and needs nothing, other than some experience !! Put some good A/T tires on it and use it as often as possible and then see what YOU need and not what others feel you need.
I think "Philsey" said it best--The nearer you are to 100% stock the nearer you are to trouble free.

My first "mods" we're Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks and 275/70/17 KO2 tires... Completely transformed the ride and handling!!!

Now that the temps are lowering here I have had the sunroof and rear glass open. I noticed this week as I was climbing a hill that I could smell the rotten eggs however I was at 2k rpm and around 40 mph. She was lugging somewhat but I was not trying to push it. I guess under a load you'll also encounter this smell?

Cat converter rotten egg smell. Next time you go out try this: Start it up and roll your rear window down. Drive sedately for a minute or two, then floor it like you stole it up to 70 mph. I guarantee you will get the rotten egg smell.

With that said, once the cats get up to temp you won't get that smell again until you are pushing it hard for some time, like climbing a mountain. I have driven several hundred miles with my rear window down with no issues but if you do the above like I said you will get the smell every time.
[MENTION=128244]minimalist[/MENTION] the only mod you really need to do is purchase some decent AT tires. That's it.

Sliders, I bought my 4Runner 2 weeks ago and from what Ive gather here all the 4Runner veterans recommend sliders as a first upgrade. :banana:
