Just bought new 2011 BP SR5- question regarding 3M/Tint/Enviro-guard upsell

Hey everyone,

Just bought my new 2011 SR5, I'm going to pick it up tomorrow- can't wait.

I have a question regarding one of the dealership upsells. They are offering 3M clearbra (1/2 hood & rearview mirrors), something called 'resist all enviroguard' and front window tint for $699.

Supposedly the the enviroguard protects the interior and exterior and covers any stains/damage for 7 years (haven't read the fine print yet tho). I live in Colorado so I think the ClearBra is defintely a good idea, but I'm not sure if I really want to tint the front windows as I think it's not my kind of look.

Has anyone gone with this package? Is it a good idea or a scam? And has anyone had the dealership tint the windows and like the results? I'm worried it might make my BP SR5 look a little too...gangster.

I sell the clearbra kit for 269 and it includes the hood, fenders, flares and mirrors. Window tint around me is $85 for the two fronts. I've heard of the stain treatment before but I never gave it much thought.

Usually on the 4r about $100. Buy I'm in NY, so I couldn't install yours, but the HFM is an easy kit to install. It's not that hard and there are a boatload of videos on YouTube about it. Search PPF

I paid $550.00 for my clear bra install. It is half the hood, the front of the hood scoop, headlights, part of the grill, and the area behind the rear mudflaps.

It took a total of 6-7 hours to do.

I saw part of the install, and to be honest unless you have lots of patience, a garage to work in, and some experience at least installing window film (the application processes are fairly similar) Im not sure its something Id be willing to attempt.

I also had my two front windows tinted to match the factory tint. Price for that was $75.00.

As far as the clearbra goes, FWIW if you do alot of highway driving its probably worthwhile. If you cruise mainly backroads with very little highway driving probably not worth it.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll look into clearbra-ing it somewhere else. My dad has venture shield on his cayman s and loves it so I might get that done at a local shop and maybe use a clearbra/bug deflector combination to take care of the new ride.

I just purchased my 2011 SR5 last week and I bought the "resist all" package from the Mountain States Toyota for $350 suppose to protect interior and exterior paint for 7 years. I'm kind of skeptical to see if they will repair or repaint the exterior, I guess we will find out in 7 years if I still own my 4Runner. :lookout:

As for the 3M clear bra I've had 4 of my prior cars installed by TintTech located in south Denver, 3M warranty is 5 years and I paid $500 for hood, bumper, mirrors. Here's the link: http://www.tinttechonline.com/

Front 2 window tint 30% was $80 does not look gansta compared to factory tint at 20%. I can still out at night with 30%.

You could also order the kit and have a shop install it. If you do go to Tinttech tell them Joe (Gray 4Runner) sent you, maybe they might give you a discount.

Hey joeyoda, thanks for the info. I live in boulder...but if Tint Tech has done a great job on all your vehicles, it's probably worth a drive, the last thing I'd want is a bad clearbra job.

About the Resist-All, I'm thinking of getting it. I don't have a garage right now so my car is going to be outside all the time. it's only $270 to get it. Here's the link in case anyone wants to learn more:

My front 2 windows are 30% (light coming in) which is lighter than the back 20%. No it's not a perfect match, but I've had cars with 5% 20% and I like 30% because I can see out at night a lot better than 20%.

Be careful going with 3M clear bra kits online, they don't cut it all the way to the edge of the hood. It usually leaves 1/4 of an inch and it will peel in the long run. It's better to custom cut the films by a pro and it will take a good 7-8 hours to do the job.
