I'm still debating whether I like it or not. Of course an actual test drive might make it or break it.
It felt bigger that's for sure. There's a little more headroom even if there's a sunroof. There's more leg room, and the floor isn't as "sports-car like" as the 4th Gen. Entry/exiting the vehicle has more space for bigger people (like myself, I'm 5' 11" ) The door handle feel a little cheap, cuz they stole a lot of the design from the Sequoia. The windshield felt like an FJ Cruiser, it's more erect than the 4th gen. Controls are user friendly, over-all it's bigger than the 4Th Gen.
The SR5 features are still about the same, except Homelink is now standard :guitar3: The TE and SR5 get the 17" rims while the LTD gets the 20. You guys know the featurs already, and smart key is standard on the LTD.
Now all I want is a test drive and that's when I'll write up a better report about it

I have to say I don't like vehicles with crazy shaped stereo systems. Why not stick with a simple "Double DIN" size. If you keep your vehicle for 10+ years or more, you end up getting a different stereo in many cases. Toyota has gone to the integrated radio and heating controls and that leaves you with some crappy looking hack job if the radio shxts the bed.
There's alot of money to be made in service parts. The harder it is to replace with aftermarket, the more profit they bring in. OEMs care most about the person buying it new, who generally does not keep the car more than a few years.

The international auto show will be here during Thanksgiving and another in January 50 miles away. Hopefully, they'll have a couple 4Runners on display. Usually, the new/debut models there are more of and one or sometimes none of older models.
Two new minor things that bug me about the 5th. 1) The engine cover is way off center, reminding me of a FWD. 2) The 4Runner font is hideous.

That's right it should be in the Moscone Center around Thanksgiving... When are the exact dates of it? I'm thinking of driving up from Fresno to San Fran to check out that car show. :bluejump:
They SHOULD have at least one 5th Gen there, but I'm not sure if they'll let people touch or ride in it. I remember when the GX's first debut in the San Fran auto show was all blocked off... Only there to see it, but couldn't ride or touch it. :sniper: I hope they don't do that to the 4Runner...
Wish they have the GX460 also in San Fran but I heard from the Toyota rep that they will make it's first debut in Dec or so at the LA auto show :crybaby:

In the past, it starts the Saturday before Thanksgiving and ends the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
Looks like they change the start date around this year. It's from 11/26-12/2/2009. I usually like going on Turkey day, if I have time. Because most people are at home preparing their feasts and spending time with family, not to mention parking is free in SF. Admissions is still the same, $8.

Personally, I love the Radio / Navigation layout. Who cares about aftermarket radios except for 16-year old teens who want "bumping systems"?
This layout is MUCH better than the 4th Gens hideous looking 3-wheeled turntable design. I give Toyota tons of credit for the new layout and think it looks really sharp.
If you don't like the Navigation stereo system, you do realize there is a smaller radio layout without Navigation, right?

an aftermarket radio, with some nice speakers almost always sound better then anything offered by the manufacture.
Integrated Stereos is just an attempt by the manufacture to hopefully ensure if anything ever goes wrong, you can't go out and upgrade your stereo from a 3rd party. You'll have to go spend extra to get the exact same thing you had before.
I wish manufactures would stick with the din or double din options.

To be clear, I too think the interior layout looks great. As for the radio, I don't want a boom boom system, I just like the option of replacing the factory system when it breaks - and most of them do if you keep your vehicle for a while.
Like the above writer mentions, it's another attempt for the manufacturers to sell more parts. I'm guessing with reliability of all brands much higher than years ago, they have to make a profit somewhere.
