Been a longtime 4Runner admirer, but never owned one. Yesterday I finally broke down and ordered an 05 SE, 2WD, V6, side airbags, JBL w/ 6-disc in dash changer, auto-dimming mirror, Natural White.

Just curious why you went with the V6 instead of V8? Isn't it "only" about $800 more for the new 270hp V8 and 5-speed auto? Or is there a bigger savings that's on the sticker or options package?

Valid question.

The main reasons for me are:

1. Will rarely tow anything, so I don't need the extra torque.
2. The new 5-speed transmission and horsepower ratings of the two engines make them more or less equivalent for my everyday driving needs.
3. Even though the difference is small, the V6 should get better MPG, and my commute is fairly long each day.
4. The cost difference allowed me to get things like the moonroof and upgrade the stereo.

Managed to keep the price under $30k, and needed to do that in order to justify the purchase. My current car is fine, but I'm getting married and we both have small cars and have found ourselves needing more room.

BTW, any idea about delivery times in Texas for the '05s?

Are the '05's more expensive? My '04 Sport ended up at $29k and change. Not sure of the difference of gas mileage. I'm sure my '04 is worse than the new ones!

Well, the papers haven't been signed since it's on order, but their giving it to me at $500 over invoice which should bring it in at $29 something.

I bought my '04 from Carson Toyota. They are an excellent dealership to buy from. I have no experience with their service department.

4Runner looks way better w/ the spoiler. Very ugly without it.

My spoiler indeed does keep the rear glass dry when I'm driving in the rain.
