Just Took Delivery of 2011 SR5 "Shocked"

Everything went fine and am very pleased with nearly everything except one thing. On my SR5 I apparently can not have the head lights go on and off with the ignition key. I don't have the "auto" wording on the turn signal where the lights are located. Duh, I thought everybody had that. Not this one!

You can leave the switch in the on position. It won't run the battery dead. They will come on with ignition and go off like 30 seconds after you turn the car off.

Plus they go off if you double tap the lock button.

Yup, they did go off if I waited. However it must be well over a minute for them to go off but thats ok. Thanks,

The stealer should be able to change the off delay time.

"Auto" on a toyota means they are truely automatic and turn on and off based on ambient light. You'd need a Limited to get that feature. If I hit my remote lock twice the lights shut down on the second hit.

I was missing auto lights feature too, but finally re-learned how to swithch head lights on when it's getting dark. The only thing I noticed is that if I leave parking lights on auto shut off doesn't work. It works only with head lights for some reason.

Um, that's why they're call parking lights. You know, so you can leave them on while parked.

Could be, but my old Fords shut off all lights after awhile.

i had the dealer disable the lights-off delay. when i shift to park and remove the key, the lights turn off immediately.

That is why I turn mine off when not needed. It is a waste of energy to run the lights during the day, IMO. Yeah, over the life of the vehicle, it might save me a gallon of gas, but every little bit helps.

I dont't recall any optional lighting group. I think it is standard on the 5th Gen.

The reason I mentioned that is because my gf and I both have 2003 SR5's. Her lights are just on/off. I have a "B" package with "optional lighting group" and it has auto/on/off and does exactly what you say. Two taps an they are off. Great feature. And it turns the lights on at night with sensors.
