Trying to decide which one to go with for my 2010 Limited. I have had K&N in the past but was curious to know if anyone had any experience with the TRD
K&N or TRD intake?

I cant speak to the K&N but I love my TRD intake. When you stomp on the throttle it doesnt sound like a wind storm anymore. Sounds throaty and aggressive. Dont know about power gains.
Same one for the 5th gen fits all years from what I have read on here. Do some research and youll see the difference and what you need to do when installing.

My friend had one on his 2012 Tundra and it was unbelievable. He decided to do it when it was reviewed as "A Ballistic Building". I would love to throw the TRD S/C on the 4R, which comes with the TRD-CAI.

If you're looking for performance, don't bother because the factory set-up is already a CAI. If you want sound, it's up to you; the TRD is just a rebranded K&N set-up that will like most every K&N set-up I have seen dirty up your MAF for nice sound.
Just get a 2014 unit, it'll bolt up fine.

Agreed. I had the K&N CAI on a few vehicles. Never added power or increased mileage (from what I could tell). I dropped in the TRD pro air filter though over the K&N. The dealer told me that because they are Toyota, they will service them and they were designed for the 4Runner. He also mentioned that the K&N tend to have oil release issues, where the TRD pro filters don't. But if they do, it becomes a Toyota issue under warranty. Not sure I buy that explanation, but the filter seems to be.... well... an air filter.

Yup, shouldn't be an issue since the 2014 is the same as the 2015.
Eh, it's a rebranded K&N Filter; it even has the logos if I remember right. The funny thing is that I don't even know if most dealers have the cleaning/oiling kit or know how to use it. I know our dealer maybe has one or two on hand and I don't remember the last time we ever sold a TRD Air Filter service if ever...

Here you go! Every automotive forum has volumes of debate regarding these types of filters. Personally, I like the mean sound they give the engine. I really don't notice any increase in mileage. Stoichiometrically, I would think that more Oxygen, would mean more fuel used as well.
I went with the TRD filter due to the fact that it IS a Toyota product and, as long as its installed properly, Toyota will back it.
BTW, I have 2 TRD filters so I can change out while the other one's being cleaned and dried out a little bit. I also have the OEM on hand if I am going to be driving at a site with super fine dust.

Easy answer, anything with TRD in the name is for appearance and sound only. They made actual performance products at some point in the past, but those days seem to be over.
Pretty sad actually, would have been nice to have some factory backed performance parts that actually worked.

You can debate a lot of things about aftermarket air filters and CAI; but there's a few indisputable facts:
-4th & 5th Gen 4Runners (and all J120/J150 Platform vehicles) pull air from the passenger fender well and have a very well designed factory CAI set-up. There's little improvement besides acoustics in that department.
-K&N (and other "oiled" filters) dirty up the MAF significantly more than a factory or dry air filter (there's a few reasons for this, but even when oiled "Per Instructions" they will do this.)
-Performance Air Filters typically are "performance" because they have less filtering media (in oiled filter cases, they try to make up for this by using an oil film to capture particulates) more airflow = better performance = less filtration = dirtier intake/internals
-The performance gain from any CAI is negligible for a mostly stock engine, even with a cat-back exhaust; typically CAI's performance gains are seen in built engines that require higher than stock airflow.
Anything other than the above is subjective/debatable.
There's still the brake pads and caliper kits (if you can find them...) but they're rebranded StopTech stuff anyways.

Do they make the TRD Cat-Back for the 15' 4R? I haven't been able to find a part number or anything.... Even the dealership parts counter didnt know about it. Do you have a P/N?
