KDSS is insane

^ In the top pic, the front passenger tire looks like it has alot of flex left in it and is limited by having a swaybar.

Here's my truck, but keep in mind the flex comes more from not having a swaybar than from the kings and UCA's

Here my passenger tire is on the ground with plenty of down travel left while my driver side is stuffed

This is the kind of feedback that is priceless. Given that TE are almost impossible to find in TX, I haven't had the chance to drive one with KDSS yet...

I had modified my last truck (Frontier) with Radflo suspension front and long travel 5125 Bilsteins rear and the like to try and get a better, more stable and responsive ride out of it. It started with the NISMO bilsteins too, which are stiffer than the stock suspension of the other models. I loved the lack of lean in the turns - my daily commute is a crotch rocket rider's dream - sweeping turns with a 60mph speed limit. Even my wife noted the improved ride on the road - but the small bump compliance and resulting noise from the suspension was simply too much. I wouldn't sign up for that lift again.

That being said, the idea of KDSS made a lot of sense on-road. I get my truck off road and do play with it, but I don't think 1" of droop is the selling point! Given that 99% of my driving is on road, this was what sold me on KDSS. I was already lined up for a Trail Edition, as I won't buy a 4x4 that does not have a locker.

Now if it would only get here...

What is difficult about it? I thought it was pretty easy. I put a ratchet strap hooked to the frame around under the piston to hold it in place. Then just unbolt the lower mount point.

I really love the KDSS myself. I believe that is one of the reasons why we had an Outback for three years and why we are now in the 4Runner TEP. My wife drove the 4Runner SR5 several years ago and said it was like driving a boat around. It dove and wallowed like crazy. The truck now with the KDDS handles fantastic (For something this heavy and BOF) It doesn't dive nearly as much or sway and it feels like .... well a small boat rather than a barge. It's a huge difference having those giant sway bars on the street and I imaging that with the KDDS allowing for similar droop compared to a conventional sway bar off road, it will be pretty good there too.

I have a buddy with a Jeep Unlimited with the electronic sway bar disconnect, and it's pretty good although Jeep doesn't put a giant sway bar on like Toyota so it still wallows more on road, but is superior in terms of drop and articulation, but of course also has a solid axle in front.

I remember a few years ago we saw an XJ get stuck and they were so twisted up that they couldn't open any of the doors. The guys had to climb out the windows to hook up the straps. That made me glad I have a BOF SUV.

Think the OP is referring to something like a jeep wrangler, where you can physically d/c the swaybars. KDSS is "virtual", my TJ was physical, then you could get the flex.

I'm trying to absorb the years of wisdom and experiences you generous folks have shared. So far I've picked only one. .... antman's trunk mod (leveling the back and making two storage cubbies.... oh. ... and I learned about a local off roading group!

I'm already trying to sell the wife on the mod..... I haven't found a thread on "how to sell mods to your wife"

Selling the mod is easy. Take her off road and look for big rocks and/or humps. Lift kit and skids are an easy sell to her after that. I have mine liking the idea of a Hefty Fabworks aluminum bumper too down the road too after our Moab trip.

She will likely smirk knowing what you are doing, but the thumbs up is all that counts!

On mine when I turn the ignition key but don't start the truck there is a yellow KDSS light on the right side of the instrument panel that flashes briefly.
