The Toyota spec's say 9.0" for 2WD and 9.6" for 4WD regardless of KDSS or non-KDSS.
There's another thread that notes the KDSS skid plate is lower but doesn't say by how much.

It's also a $1700 option in the new T4TEs. You'd know, just based on price, if you had it as it's not included by default (The TRD Pro doesn't even have it.)
I recently noticed that Toyota's site doesn't even mention the KDSS for their 2016s. I had to explicitly order mine with it when I put in my order for a TE earlier in November.
If you are talking about the build your own section of Toyota.com, your region just might not regularly stock KDSS models so they don't show it on the build your own. On my region, certain colors aren't readily available with KDSS. :lol:

I measured my 2015 KDSS clearance and found it to be 9.0" clearance at the leading edge of the front skid plate.
I'm going by what my dealer has told me when I ordered mine. Apparently not enough people are interested in the KDSS to keep it in the public eye for 2016. My regional settings for toyota.com had KDSS described as an option for the 2015 models, but has since been removed for 2016. Do you guys still see it in the description for building your own TE?
That's for the Trail Premium. Do you have it available for just the trail edition? I noticed it's in the description for the TEL in my region, but still not an option in packages. In any event, no big deal, just interesting that here in Texas they are being less obvious about the KDSS system.

Your dealer is feeding you a line. It's definitely based on region. Here in Colorado if you can find a TE or TEP 99.5% of the time they are equipped with KDSS.
I checked my dealer inventory this morning and they have two TE's. Both have KDSS. They won't last long as it's rare you even see TE's in their inventory.

So I just read this whole thread. I have a Trail Premium on the boat coming over for me. This was the only one my dealer had on the way in Super White which is the color I want, however it does not have KDSS.
I do have plans to install a lift kit later, I am hoping I can afford one of Icon's top kits. I suspect with the aftermarket lift installed, that the KDSS will become a moot point? There's lots of info back and forth here. Coming from wheeling in a 25 year old Isuzu Trooper, I suspect the 4Runner will feel like a space shit when I take it off road.
So I guess my question is, will I really miss KDSS (especially if I plan to install a high quality lift kit to the rig)?

Thanks, but my question really is, with say, a stage 7 Icon suspension kit, am I really missing much with not having KDSS?

I don't think the stage 7 is a long travel kit so you would still benefit from the KDSS. The expedition overland guys were running a stage 6 or 7 with KDSS and it seemed to work well for them. Benefiting from it and "really missing" it is a pretty subjective question. You will benefit from it, but do you need it, thats up to you. FWIW I have it and love it, I could live without it, but after having it I wouldn't want to.

Are you lifting just to lift or are you planning on going out and doing some wheeling? If you are street use only, run the KDSS with lift, it handles awesome. BUT, the KDSS will limit the amount of wheel travel / articulation off road, especially with a long travel rear set-up. The KDSS piston only has so much allowable travel, when it is maxed out, so is wheel travel. I recently disconnected my KDSS due to the limiting factor of off road performance.

It's a small amount. It looks like a lot though because of where the skid drops in the front. With a small level on the front, the low hanging bit is the rear diff on either version. Where I actually drag 99% of the time is on the center cross member area.
