Kenwood DNX7100 Installation

One more thing. I know there was a link somewhere and I think it was on here that documents removing the interior pieces necessary to access the stereo. does anyone know where to find that link? Thanks.

What I find interesting is that his '03 looks more like my '04. I have the black frame around the climate controls, and the granite like finish on the little pocket. I wonder what all that means.

Where to put the ipod connector? I didn't want to put a big hole in the bottom of the cubby under the AC controls. Yet I want it to be convenient. So I was thinking I could cut a hole behind the cubby and just snake the wire through the top of the cubby. but that isn't as pretty. Any ideas?

2 issues I have right now

1. I got the wrong wiring harness which I didn't realize till everything was hooked up. So now my car is apart with no stereo and my wife needs it next week. Since getting the new harness will likely take a week it sux.

2. I can't select the GPS system, the icon is grey'd out. Anyone know why?

3. Also to note, you can hook up an ipod or a USB thumb drive, not both at the same time.

FYI...harness is TYTO-01, I ordered it from Circuit City Online.

For selecting nav, you can use v.sel button to select it. Also to note, you have to go to "AV Interface" setup and ENABLE Nav as a source before you can "Ungrey" it so to speak.

I just got this installed at 5 am on wednesday!! LOL!! Still figuring out stuff. :p

Ipod connection kicks ass! Love playing music video while I drive.

Dang that's a big antenna. It's too bad it has to be right on top of the dash like that. Could you mount it outside the truck...like back on top of the liftgate?
 
Just like any other xm radios out there. You can mount it anywhere you want. It comes with a metal flange mount also so you can literally screw that thing somewhere on your vehicle (I don't know why you would) or just mount that huge magnetic saucer of an antenna on the outside. You do need to purchase extra USB cable looking antenna cable though if you want to run it everywhere.
 
I don't know how the ipod audio thingy's wired to the stock radio on the new 4runners, but since you are swapping the headunit, you probably need to get the Ipod adapter I got. It hooks up Ipod Video so you can play video off of IPOD. That's HOT!

couple questions:

(1) when the ipod is hooked up, can playback still be controlled using the ipod itself?

(2) how does the ipod work on the navi touchscreen? Is the ipod scrollwheel emulated on the navi?
 
Parking Brake Bypass?

Anyone had issues with the VSC/TRAC/Check Engine lights coming on when you ground the parking brake wire? Not that I've done this, but does anyone know if on Toyota's if you are supposed to leave it connected to the parking brake connection as well as set it to ground?

Let's say a person is handicapped and depressing the parking brake all the time with their left foot is a nuisance so in order to watch video while the parking brake is off, where would the best place to ground that wire on a Toyota without setting off the Check Engine/VSC lights? Seems to work fine, but the lights are annoying on the dash. I've tried running it to straight to the battery as well as ground to various points on the vehicle? Does this need to be tied to a specific ground point on the unit itself?

Any help would be appreciated and completely hypothetical of course.
 
ToyotaSteve, why don't you just ground the parking brake wire on the head unit? If you do that you can watch video any time you want, even while driving. Then the parking brake on the car is not even in play.

That's exactly what I did...works perfectly.
 
Airbur, when you grounded the actual head unit ground where did you ground it to? I'm getting some excess noise that I'm sure is from not grounding the head unit to the best ground.
