Kenwood DNX7100 Installation

I replaced the entire system...all the JBL components. Yes, the sound of the JBL system sucked after I used the Metra adapter to connect the DNX7100.
 
Can anyone with the dnx7100 tell me how to adjust the screen angle to -1? Everytime I try it goes into position then automatically goes to +2.

Also since I am running an iPod adapter do I have to unplug it to hook up my thumb drive everytime or is there such a thing as a USB splitter I could use?
 
Don't think there's splitter. You use either one or the other. Since I have the Ipod Video, I picked the Ipod Adapter. Never looked back since. Love playing music video on this thing!. I just wonder if the new Itouch is compatible.
 
Ive read on crutchfields forum that its pretty incompatible. They also said the new iPod classic has some problems but I think there is a firmware update to fix some of that.
 
Just got back from the audio shop (appt is tomorrow) to get the DNX7100 and accessories installed. According to the tech, he recommended placing the antennae for the GPS and Sirius 'up under the dash - close to the windshield). I thought these antennae neede line of sight...but I was told it can be 'under' the dash and still works well. Does this sound right?

Also - the Kenwood backup cam (ccd-2000) is not going to be easy to place. Tech said that circuit city wouldn't let him drill into the metal of the rear hatch, so looks like it will have to go up under the rear plactic spoiler.

Last thing - they "usually" charge $200 to install the swi-jack steering control interface because "...it takes 3 hours to program...".

I'll let you know the final bill (and post pics)
 
The SWI-JACK takes no where near 3 hours to program... it shouldn't even take a total of 30 minutes to completely install. We charge $90 for the part and $75 to install.... $200 is OK if that includes the part. If thats just labor...whew... I'd reconsider that place.

As far as the backup camera goes... check out the Boyo VLT420... simple clean and easy install.
 
Agreed...I'd be VERY weary of that installer/shop as the "programming" they mention is essentially a 10 min process. As long as you prepare correctly and know which buttons to hit, it doesn't take long at all.
 
I've done so many of them I can tell you how to program without looking at a manual... ;-)

But just FYI, you can get programming instructions from www.pac-audio.com specifically for your car. All it requires is setting one dial to either 1-4 and then finding the version number and initially programming it for that version. Other than that it takes assigning each control on the steering wheel to the control in the SWI-JACK. You can even program source to volume up if you prefer... doesn't matter.

Point being... don't listen to that shop.
 
QUICK Help

Thanks to everyone's input on this forum I am almost done with this install.

However, I am having problems locating the factory steering wheel control harness to connect to the swi-jack. Can anyone post a pic or describe what I'm looking for? Another yota forum indicated it was the only 20 pin connector with 3 wires..but I don't see any 20 pin connectors with 3 wires coming from the radio location...am I looking in the wrong spot?

any help is appreciated.
 
Speed sensor

When people have installed there 7100 was it hard to find the speed wire to hook up to the nav? Did any of you hook it up to the speed sensor. I know its not completely nessesary but havent seen any pictures on how do do this or where exactly im looking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The DNX7100 does not have a speed sensor lead to connect. It only has a reverse sensor which is only necessary if you're installing the camera.
 
good to know. not sure why the crutchfield support was telling me that. Next, how does the video work? is this only when you have the parking brake on? This is my guess just because when i was hooking it up they had me attached the teal write to it. Is there a better why to connect other than cutting the skin of the wire off with a knife and attaching it that way. I wish they would have sent me a connetor which attaches to the side. how did you do this?

I'm about to do the install later today and I have the same question. What harness does the SWI-JAC connect to?
 
Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the actual connector. It wasn't hard to find though and looks exactly like the picture in the
installation instructions. Mine is a 2004 though so it may have changed in the newer models.

Once I pulled the old deck it was obvious! Thanks!

Now my problem is I can't get the firmware updated. The "Start" button is greyed out....

Garmin Update

I have seen this before but for some reason am having trouble finding it. i believe i need a SD card or something? Can you help me at all. Would like to update before i make some trips over the summer. How do i update on the kenwood dnx7100

Firmware updates are different than map updates. Firmware updates can be downloaded for free here:
