Key Fob Range

So I bought my 4runner used about 4 years ago and decided to buy an OEM key fob used on Ebay as of course it didn't come with one... Good news is I got the thing programmed no problem and it works as it should.The issue is the range, this thing will only work from about 15' away tops, is this normal? I've done some searching on this with no luck on here.

My fob is an OEM unit and has a brand new battery and only works up to about 10' away.

Smartstart = 25,000 mile range. Anywhere there is cell phone signal. If not using the smartstart then use the Viper 5901 which is good for a mile (line of sight).

Yea, Mine also has a new battery in it. So oddly enough I went out to test the range thing with the chin trick and my range was significantly better and all I had done was wash my vehicle, I have no clue where the antenna might be but I certainly wouldn't think it would be this sensitive. I literally went from 15' to easily 50+! Strange
