Found this while looking under the truck today:



And thought: when the hell did I break a CV? I would have noticed a sound, feel, driving characteristics, something... Especially since I had to drive 2.5 hrs home from the last wheeling trip. I noticed the boot rotated by hand on the differential side so I moved it back and figured I'd drive around the drive way to see if I can get some noise out of it or maybe see the boot spun afterwards. Put the locker on front on, did some circles, nothing... Did more circles, nothing... Reverse circles, nada... Circles with more skinny pedal, zero... Then I figured ah, what the hell and went for a 4 lo, front locker locked, 2nd gear, full RPM launch. You guessed, nothing. When all this was done it still looked like this:



A while ago I noticed the CV joint did have a small dimple in it. But chocked it up to shitty rubber quality.

My theory of why it did this:
I think the CV joint spit out grease and started to get hot and over time sucked in the boot.

Or mashed in the boot from plowing snow.

Anyone else have this happen to them?
 
Pulled the CV today. It's not broken. I didn't feel like fartin' around with the boot and making a mess so I'll just go use my warranty. It's a legit trade in anyway since it is a Autozone CV from a while ago.

I'm tired of all the holidays already. I want to go wheelin'.... And where the hell is this snow? It's December already. I hope to get some snow before the Hang Over Run....

You and me both man. I sent my front driveshaft off again....came back today and is now "hopefully" fixed.

I'm sick of this bs rain.
 
I think I've given up on that lol. Talked to a shop who works on land cruisers and he was saying that the front springs on those will unload and make some wracket. I've redone the preloads on the wheel bearings and the knuckle bearings and tightened up everything. Still makes noise.....
 
Anyone know where to get a pair of clear corners other than waiting for eBay sellers to get their shit together?

I've pretty much given up on taking pictures with my potato of a camera.

We kicked ass on the Hang Over Run. I took out that corner light being stupid. We came hauling ass around the corner and found 4 or 5 Jeeps that were struggling so we(the red Jeep and myself) put the hammer down. He went right and I went left. We were swerving in and out of the Jeeps. I took to the ditch and stomped 2nd gear. I saw tree over hanging the ditch ahead and just said **** it. The tree won... Good time though.

Reiter was a freakin' blast. There still isn't all that many trails out there. We wheeled some trails, broke some stuff, fixed some stuff and BS'd for a while. Someone was taking pictures. I'm supposed to be getting them via email. Might post a few.

I broke a CV in the "ball pit" on the G9 trail and had to winch out. I would have been fine if I hadn't grenaded the CV.





My skids have been taking a beating lately. They look like bacon now. If I pull them off I don't know if I'll ever get them back on.

A couple rocks decided to start clearancing my front bumper for me.


I been beating on the truck pretty bad lately so it will be resting in the shop for a while. I have some things to cut off of it. When in doubt, cut it out.:flamethrwoer2:
 
Been busy this week. I've been meaning to cut up the bumper. This last run accelerated it a little. Let me know what you guys think.







 
Alright. I finished the front bumper this morning and got everything buttoned up including replacement of the Smittybilt POS solenoid. I wasn't sure how the bumper was going to come out. I wanted to keep it looking decent but at this point it really doesn't matter. It is the wheeler. But I am very happy with the way it came out.

After getting the bumper buttoned up I started in on the belly plate. It looks like a couple bolts backed when I was on the last trip. With out those bolts in place it let the skid bend. It's bent bad enough that it won't bolt back into place. I pulled it off and found the skid had been rubbing on the gas tank since it's bent now. I'm not sure what to do from here. All funds are going towards the Hammer's trip in a couple weeks so I don't have the cash to put toward material.(The 4Runner isn't going to the Hammer's.....yet) Anyone have any experience with straightening skids?

Heat and a hammer, i big hammer (sledge maybe) and allot of heat, acetylene if you've got it. Then HEAT and BEAT on the most severely bent area.

that's my method anyway, but that metal is pretty damn thick....

I was thinking about that but I have neither at the moment. It's 3/16" plate. I was thinking about cutting off the gas tank and rebuilding it. I think that is the most likely option now.
