Latest Mod and Exhaust questions

I have the same muffler with high flow cat and k&n intake though and I set car alarms off lol.
 
HAHA!! I did too in the parking garage at work today on the way home.
The deeper sound from the Borla really sets off those alarms...
 
Well let me know which day you want. Either one works.

Sounds like we need to take a few clips from in a parking garage too :D

I have mine dumped befor the axel.

I love the sound. But on bad days it really gets to you. Have you thought about dynomatimg under the carpet or anything o lessin the drone ?
 
How long have you had your Borla?? I'm hoping that drone settles down
with time..

I just got mine installed yesterday and only experiance the Drone on my long up-hill drive home from work. Driving on level surfaces I don't get the drone that much.
 
Only a week but I ended up getting sick with a fever last Wednesday so it was pretty miserable. But over the weekend is when I started really getting to test it
 
So, yours is brand new as well.

Here is Linny's video and mine sounds a bit deeper. May be due to the longer
muffler case on mine. Also, I have an Injen intake on my Runner.

I'll have to make a video but the only way to describe mine is monstrous.


Mines deeper by a little but ALOT louder. Probably cause of the high flow

The Borla seems to be settling down a bit. It's really quiet today when cruising. Still has a nice deep sound compared to my old flowmaster.

It's not ricey at all.

It has a bit of a drone around forty mph when accelerating slowly and then settles down above 45. That may be due to the longer case. I got the 16" case #40942 and Linny got the 12" case model #40941.

In his video, LINY said he has an 18".. What does it say in his build? I'm too lazy to look.

Oh Crap!! I just did a Google Search for "Borla Drone" seems to be a common problem. I'll have to take note of the RPM range it does
this on the Runner. Some say it goes away after 1500 miles or so but others are using Dynomat or some such sound insulation.
I've found that accelerating or backing off on the accelerator stops it.

Drone Update: The only time mine is intolerable is driving up that long uphill grade going home from work. On level surface it dones very slightly at 1800 - 2000 RPM which I can get out of easily with more or less accelerator.

At city driving speeds 35 - 40 MPH it's almost silent unless accelerating from a stop light.

I am really interested in this thread because I also have the Flowmaster (unknown series) and have wondered what the Borla upgrade would sound like. After reading Rc4R's thread I am now considering the upgrade.

From the videos you posted the Borla sounds pretty awesome (Wicked for you Bostonians) and a bit louder than the Flowmaster series.


RE: Drone,

I think you might be able to seriously solve the drone by adding a V8 Tundra resonance silencer. Used is fine but it needs to be from a V8 Tundra. It is roughly 4-6" long and mine was installed 1" behind the muffler. You can probably find a used one at a scrap yard or any place that installs a lot of truck exhausts will see several a month.

I have run the flowmaster with and without the resonance silencer and the difference is night and day. My flowmaster did not loose any of its "roar", only the drone was reduced. It really made a huge difference with no performance loss and the DB level (roar) appeared to remain the same but the highway drone / humm was reduced by 90%. My exhaust is pretty loud and if I upgrade to the Borla I will be keeping the silencer.



You can hear the exhaust in some of these videos. It would be louder but I don't think my camera captured the sound completely. Exhaust: Flowmaster (unknown series) with Tundra resonance silencer.

I went ahead and got the same one today. What type of cherrybomb tip did you get? also wondering did you run it straight back or did you keep it by the right rear tire?
 
How much was that Cherry Bomb tip?

I searched for a good tip before finally settling on the Tundra Performance tip from Toyota which I didn't even know existed until I browsed Toyota.com

It was $72 from the dealer. I am hoping that it holds up because my last two cheap tips have rusted away.

I'll ping you in a year to trade rust pictures .... I figure it is expensive since it is OEM/Dealer and hopefully it has quality Stainless Steel.

But we'll see ....
 
Well heck, I figured the CB one would outlast the Summit brand one that was getting rusty.

I only get 5 HP since mine was cheaper.

You know it's bad when it rusts in New Mexico...LOL!!
