LC coil spring Color codes

Sorry to revive this thread, but what shocks would you guys recommend for the lx450 8.25 wraps? I want bilsteins, but the 4runner bilsteins say only up to a 3" lift and i've heard the coils i have give about 4" of lift. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I could be wrong, but I think guys are running FJ/LC rears, which are 2" longer. Stock length shocks work on 99 talls which are 1" longer, so I'm guessing for most applications the FJ/LC shocks are fine. Someone chime in here.

Would Bilstein's give a better ride than stock lc shocks? I've been set on Bilstein's for a bit, but now i'm disappointed that the 4runner ones wont be long enough.

Has anyone tried the 5125 shocks? It says they are for custom applications and I've heard they are longer. I don't know if they come with the right hardware needed which would be an issue.

Bilstein 5125 off road shocks

I don't NEED Bilstein's though and if there is a better alternative like the stock shocks then that would be great.

If i do go the stock lc shocks route do i get the front shocks to put on my rears?

I have a buddy running 5125s on his 2nd gen and they are very nice. if you want billies that is fine but get them for the rear of a fj80 and that is true for the oem as well. here is a pic of the oem fj80 rear shocks next to a stock shock. The oem Fj shocks do really ride nice I ran them for a long time till I got some rear Kings.

Thanks for the info and picture. (it's useful for someone who's a visual learner)

I think i'll be going with the rear lc shocks. REAR right? Does it matter what year it is from because of different heights? Best place to get them?

Your guys help is much appreciated. Thanks a ton. :thumb3:

Edit: any special hardware or direct bolt-on?

yes rear LC shocks with front LC Coils. The Part Numbers for all years I believe and you can get them shipped for under 50 each from Toyota of Dallas or other online Toyota parts houses. They are direct bolt in but I would recommend upgrading the washers to something thicker. Here is the toyota part number. Put it in google and pick the best price.

This is why I love this forum!
Thanks a ton dude. You've really helped me out!

Man, I was just about to get some Rough Country N2.0's for the rear when I lift, but after reading and seeing the prices, I think I may lean towards FJ80 OEM rears. Anyone want to talk me out of this? I'm planning on 99 talls and 1.5" spacer to get to about 2.5" lift with a softer-than-OME ride.

Are the AM FJ80 shocks worse than OEM? These Pro Comp's are cheaper, but I'm guessing OEM or Bilstein is the way to go?

I've always heard that bilstein is the best and the highest quality where you get exactly what you pay for. You could definitely go with bilsteins and have a great ride.

I think the OEM fj80 lc shocks are going to be huge for only a 2.5" rear lift.

Those 4runner bilsteins on toytec should work for you because they say up to 3" of lift so that's perfect for you.

Yeah, the longer compressed length has me worried about bottoming under load. Anyone comment on the FJ80's for a 2.5" lift? Are they too long?

it really depends on how you drive your runner. If you don't wheel hard where you would fully compress your rear suspension then the 1/2 inch of difference won't make any difference. if you do wheel hard then you can lower your bumpstops just a hair and will be fine. That said the Billie's would be very nice as well. It really just depends:thumb:

I want to know what color code you have if you have LC coils...

So you are saying basically the only way the shock would get bottomed is if you completely stuff a wheel? I don't wheel really at all, maybe farm roads, more mud and snow than rock crawling.

The FJ80 rears require boring out the upper mounting hole, correct? Do the Tundras?

No, you don't need to bore anything out. The thread is longer on those shocks though, so you'll just have to stack 2 washers to be able to tighten it down on the top mount. No big deal at all.

so we thought, eh? Until Steve from SS mentioned they do enlarge the hole and use a "centering cup", which I'm still trying to figure out what it is, but I think it's a tapered diameter doo-hickey that goes into the upper mounting hole.

lol I know right? Yeah, pretty sure that's what it is. What he said makes perfect sense.

All I can say is I've been running my LC shocks like so for almost 3 years and haven't run into any issues. But I suppose if you want to do it right, then bore it out. But I don't know of any member's running the LC shocks who have bored it out. I can't speak of what will happen in the future, but when I replace my shocks I'll take a look at the top mounting location and check it out.
