Led Exterior write-up

I picked up a bunch of Leds for the exterior of the 4th Gen 4Runner. Once again, I put together a few words and pics as to the install.

I think you will find the results a drastic improvement over the factory lighting.

Toyota 4Runner LED Lighting

I'll be doing the front parking lights as well. I purchased a white high power Led which turned out to be a fraction of an inch too long. I returned it and am awaiting an shorter replacement. I changed my mind and am going with amber for the parking lights for now. Will get that added to the write up as soon as they arrive.

I really wanted to do the the DRLs too and to change them to white as well. But to remain legal I would need Amber turn signals. The DRLs are the turn signals and the 2006+ 4R uses 1156 bulbs which have just one positive and one negative wire going to them, unlike the 1157's which have two positives which allow for the dual color changing Leds to work. I thought extensively about modding the socket to the 1157 type and while that would work, you would have to disable DRLs and run a constant hot ignition wire to the white side of the leds. This is great and the turns should work and be amber, BUT the constant wire to the DRLs means that the DRLs would be on even with the low beams. Not exactly what I wanted, and therefore I am putting that on hold for now too. But I digress...on to the exterior led page Toyota 4Runner LED Lighting. Feedback is always welcome and helps to improve future pages. Thanks.

note to this mod, u will need to change the flasher, if u are changing the turn signals to leds, the flasher unit is located inside behind the fuse box, i was able to reach in and unplug it and change it to the one for leds, its best to take the dash out and unbolt the fuse box to get a better way of changing it.
heres the ebay item number that i ordered for this led mod 290394511770
it might be the same for the drl equiped toyota. mine is non drl equiped.
here wat you need for the exterior lights. i have a 07 sport if that matters.
parking light i used these 5 smd type leds, works in the rear plate light too, and also the interior map and door lights 280486793913 , that will be enough for the whole mod if non are defective.
next one for the reverse i used these 13 smd type leds 130368004361 , fits perfectly in the reverse , not too big, nor to small.
next for the rear turn signal i used these 24 smd leds amber color 260610692728
for the front on my non drl equiped , the socket is 1156 i use these 24 smd leds white color 260588700418
these leds are way brighter than the piaa bulbs i had, i think for me, buying piaa stuff in import stores last longer than buying them from american stores.
flasher unit fixes the hyper flash issue on the non led flasher. will have a small delay when using the signals, it will light up for about 2 secs steady then start flashing, its normal. hope this helps u out J.A.

Thanks for the info. Few questions for you.

a) does the flasher unit you are using produce the clicking sound when the turn signals are activated, or is it silent.
b) to confirm, you have no drls' now and are running white turn signals? any pics?

The part number on your site is the corrected one or the "too long" one. In addition, is that the brightest one? I just got 15% discount code. I want to use it for this mod.

Thanks for the question so I can clarify. The part number for the too long parking lights is not on my site at all, as i did not receive the correct bulbs yet. The only bulbs on my site are those currently in use (license and reverse bulbs).

The front parking lights in white i tried (unsuccessfully) to install were
V-LEDS 5K WHITE 194 13 LED LIGHT BULBS
194_13_SMT_W_5K 33.6mm long

The ones I have on order in amber are as follows
AMBER SMT X5 HIGH POWER LED LIGHT BULBS
194_X5_HP_A 25.8mm long.

Hope that clears things up. Let me know.

The flasher still clicks like normal, also the front turn signal white LEDs are like the interior led color, very bright white. I have amber in the rear and they are for legal reason.

Let us know how these leds work out. I am currently looking for some leds to replace the stock 194 bulbs in my parking lights. I am looking for something brighter as I have painted my headlight housings black and it cut down the light output of the stock 194s.
Saw your write-up of the V-LEDS 921-19-HP-W for replacing the back-up lights. Have been looking for a brighter alternative to the stock lights. Think I will give these a try. Thanks.

All cleared up. Thank you

I did my license plate lamps a while back and the aesthetic improvement is incredible. You wouldn't think license plate bulbs would make such a difference, but the stock lamps are crazy yellow.

Let us know how these leds work out.

They worked out great, perfect fit and nice color, a deeper orange than the factory parking lights. Overall I wouldn't classify these as a must have like the backup and parking leds are, but they are nice.

On the '07 are these dedicated parking lights or are they parking/turn signals?

I have an '05 and was waiting to see what you thought of these leds, but I don't understand your last sentence.

They are dedicated parking lights. The DRL's/Turn Signals are above them.

The last sentence means that these are nice lights but not something you really need to run out and purchase immediately. They are a nice touch but not as dramatic of a change as swapping out the interior bulbs, or upgrading the reverse lights.
