Been searching for days here and can’t find answer. Pretty much the retrofit threads come up but I don’t have interest in doing that. Really just want a plug and play That will be brighter/whiter. I have a 2019 Subaru with LED projectors and love the white light and their visibility. Night and day over my 4Runner.

Can anyone recommend some LED’s that will be a PnP and last? I’d like to replace both dims and brights, possibly fogs. I have a 2008 SR5 with projectors, they’re decent for stock but just so darned yellow.

Would the H9 halogens be a better choice then LED’s? Brighter, whiter? I thought LED’s were A better choice And the future nowadays, like the light bars are all LED’s.

I put the Fahren LEDs on my 4th gen and couldn't be happier. Seems like they reach further and wider, and everything is brighter without blinding oncoming traffic. On Amazon they're about $30, plug and play.

I bought Xenon Depot LED low beam and fog lights from Headlight Revolution for my 2007. The fogs were the CMB plug and play and the low beams are the xtreme LED with the fan-like heatsink and wiring harness. I'm a little wary of simple plug n play LED bulbs for the low and high beams because of heat dissipation and light output which is why I went with the Xenon Depot xtreme LEDs. For the fogs and interior lights, sure, I'm not worried about throwing an LED bulb in there since I don't use them often and don't rely on them when driving.

I got a plug and play set from Headlight Revolution LED Off Road Light Bars, Aftermarket Headlights, LED and HID Conversion Kits and Bulbs... they no longer offer the kind I got but they have another similar set.

I have a little bit of an issue with the pattern it puts out but overall I am pretty happy with them. They are WAY brighter than stock.

I ran morimoto 2.0 2 strokes led for a while before I switched over to a projector retrofit. It's decent with our halogen projectors for what it is. My only negative I would say about em is that you could hear the fan humming at a stop light if you had your radio off.

I recommend the GTR Ultra 2...a little on the expensive side, but on my wife's '16 CRV with projects...they are fantastic...nice white light with original cutoff and in her car, barely hear any fan noise...hear nothing with engine running. Had them since Christmas time, so far, they've been great.

Problem is, the factory Koito H11 projectors aren't built for anything but halogen projectors. People shove all sorts of stuff in their headlights but the unintended consequence is all the excessive glare that comes with alternate light sources.

DD SL1s are a decent compromise since they are very thin and mimic halogens as best as we can manage at the moment. Not all plug-and-play LEDs are created with this in mind.

I'm using the same lowbeams. I had one fail. I reached out to the customer service. I sent them a video of the flickering I was experiencing and the troubleshooting I did to verify that it was their bulb with the issue along with my amazon order number. (I swapped the driver and passenger bulbs and the problem bulb behaved the same in either location while the good one worked in either location.)

I doubt I would have needed all that to get a warranty replacement, but it sure did make the whole experience super easy. The only odd request was for me to cut the wires off the bad headlight and send a photo of that. I guess it's so they can verify that you aren't trying to scam them out of multiple sets of headlights.

The lights are so good that I ordered a set for my wife's '14 outback that didn't come with LEDs from factory.

So after so many years later, are the HID’s really that superior still? I’ll have to re-evaluate things then. Is it pretty normal for replacement headlight bulbs to last a year or much less? Seems like the LED’s are hit or miss for durability from what I’m reading now. Just tonight I saw 2 different vehicles that were LED headlights and were flickering on and off. Plus I think the fan humming would annoy me, my Subie doesn’t do that or have fans that hum.

Any other bulbs then that will last and be a brighter/whiter light? I read bad things about the Silverstars and that they don’t last.

I appreciate everybody’s response and experiences with theirs.

I run this brand as well after a long thread on this subject. They are fantastic, and improved night visibility 100% from the halogen bulbs. I would use these again in a heartbeat! I even replaced the turn signal/DRL bulbs with LEDs that were recommended in a discussion by Formidable, and those were just as big of an improvement because they are very bright and crisp yellow, so much better for safety as well as aesthetically. The regular yellow colored bulbs used to fade after a relatively short time as the painted yellow color would fade from heat. These are as bright after a year as when I installed them. Honestly with so many improvements in LED bulb technology, I wouldn’t waste the time or money on a retrofit anymore when you can get almost as good for WAY less money, and spending the time it takes to screw in new bulbs. Now I just have to find a set of replacement ‘06 projectors that doesn’t condensate like my current Amazon set!:uzi:

I've got an OEM set that just need to be re-repolished. I tried to refinish the "glass" and found out I didn't have the finesse to do it well. They never leaked and they are in good condition. The glass is just in an embarrassing state from how poor my attempt to fix them was.

I got some Anzo brand replacements that have held up ok. The clear on those is peeling already though.

There are indeed several options haha, but the engineering behind the bulb makes a big difference between safe lighting and glaring everyone down the road. LEDs seem to give slightly better width but a slight penalty to distance vs. halogens from the research I've done.

Those look like H11 projectors still, yes.

HIDs are still superior in overall output at this moment yes - especially vs plug and play LEDs. I briefly considered a proper LED retrofit - much closer to HID retrofit output levels - but I didn't like the color temperature in the end. I run 4200k HID bulbs now.

Couple options here:

Diode Dynamics SL1 H11s - very well engineered for proper beam pattern/great heat dissipation but on the pricier end. ~5500k temperature. I run these in my high beams - some fan noise when they're on but it ain't that bad.

Modded H9 halogen bulbs.

Upgraded H11 halogen bulbs - Osram Nightbreaker Laser/Unlimited.

Looks like a fair amount of people are running these successfully and Are very happy with them. They’re definitely cheap enough to try and I’ll probably give them a shot. Driving my Subie last night with factory LED’s and then jumping in the 4Runner with the “yellows” there’s a huge difference in light color. Seems like I get great distance though in the 4Runner.

Are you having any error messages or lights on the dash? Looks like some bulbs come with a decoder to stop this.

Plenty of great advice and referrals here, glad to have the experience on such a great site for a newbie with a lot of dumb questions lol. Thank you guys!

Yes they are still the H11’s for the lows. The diode dynamics look nice but a little pricier, I’ll look into them more. Thanks again for the info and your experience.

I have beamtech H11 for the lows and 9006 for the fogs. I like them the best because they keep the factory cutoff sharp but they’re almost a true white. They’re plenty bright but I need to get their highs sometime.

Plus they’re only $40 a kit
