Sorry to nag, but just to get this straight, I should order 3 Type 1 bulbs for the ECT, RR defrost and RR window?

Also, I replaced the 2 of 4 LED's on the digital climate control. I ordered the wrong ones for the two that light up the digital display, but got the ones on the side correct. Should I order 2 Type 2's for these two spots? Thanks so much for your help
 
This is your total list you would need.

So you would need a total of 4 Type1 and 5 Type2. Hope that helps .
For the digital display I think they are the type2 and the type1 light up the buttons, but I can't remember. The there is 4 in total for that.

A note on the digital climate control: There are one (probably two) lights that I didn't try to get to. They are most likely soldered. One light is the fresh/recycle air button and I believe there is another similar button on the upper right. Maybe this summer I'll get to it. Just a warning if you don't have soldering experience replacing the DCC if you screw up is quite expensive. Problem is the fresh/recycle button is always on so it will probably be annoying if everything else is a different color.

Power window, security, passenger seatbelt are all soldered.

Anybody know where I can get the green Toshiba V2 sockets for the #24's ? I was changing mine out today and one of them was fried so badly that it won't stay in the slotted hole.
 
Alright, I need some help.

I have a 1999, and have seen where I need 3 size bulbs, 194, 74 and 24.

I got a 194 for the Shifter because that is what this and other threads said would work, went to put it in, and it was way to large. I also got into the gauge cluster just to try, and way to big there as well.

I have read that 24 is the right size for the gauge cluster as well as a few other spots. And the 74 go for the climate control and blinker as well as others, but the blinkers and climate controls looked to be the exact same size as the gauge cluster.


Can anyone please confirm what size I need? I've read many threads, and have seen multiple things so am confused and don't want to order the wrong things.

as for the 99, there was a thread just a couple days ago of the finished product the small Neo Wedge's are 3mm those are for the buttons and the blinkers,

I did see that thread, along with many others, and like I said, I read a lot of different things that conflicted with each other.

Sounds like #24 for the gauges is the consensus. But when I took everything apart on the dash last night, it appeared all the bulbs were pretty much identical so I got even more confused.

But sounds like #24 (3), 74(6) and those neo wedge's (3).

Hopefully that works. :)
 
haha yeah i hear ya its a confusing topic, the #24's if i remember right are a wedge base bulb but they go into one of those round green things that look like a neo wedge. If you take some good pics of you OEM bulbs i can tell you what they are but it sound like your on the right track

It's a lot of working getting in there for a noob like me. :P But I will probably end up going in there again tonight, because I forgot to screw one of the bulbs in tight enough, so the left side of the gauge cluster is real dim, so I wanna fix that.

So if I go back in there, I will snap some pictures.

Alright I took it apart tonight try to to fix one of the OEM bulbs that wasn't working, we will see when I reinstall it.

But I found the number 74 etched on the blinker bulbs so far, so I am assuming they are 74's :hatsoff:
 
Not starting

Just changed the plugs on my 00 4runner. Now it wont start!!! It will turn over, run for a second then cut out?? Prior to this the check eng light was going on and off. It would also sometimes stall at a red light and at times would require 3-4 turns of the key to start in stead of the usual one. I even put the old plugs back in with no luck.
 
So one of my 3 main gauge cluster bulbs is burnt out apparently, so I was messing with it to see what was wrong. I was trying to take off the green cover that it has on it, and yeah, it ripped. :p So anyways, I plan on doing LED, but if I don't, can you order a OEM bulb with the green cover on it?

And TDR, I took a picture like you said, and hopefully you can help me when I get it uploaded later to figure out the size of the bulb.
 
Alright, got it all put back together today after running around trying to figure out which size bulb would work.

The only bulbs that pepboys carried that worked was a 74, even though the 74 bulb was smaller than the regular bulb typically in the gauge cluster. Thought it might be a 24 bulb, but tried that and that was too big. It just doesn't make sense, it's gotta be some bulb size between a 24 and 74 but I don't know what it is.

Before I make my LED purchases can anyone confirm for sure what you used? Right now the only option I see is 74, unless I am missing something for the 3 gauge cluster bulbs and 2 blinker bulbs.

I purchased:

2 White LED's #74 for my blinkers
4 Blue LED's #74 for my Climate Control Knobs, Key/Lighter Ring
4 Blue LED's #24 for my Gauge Cluster

I am pretty confident all the #74's will work, but I have no idea on the #24. Regular #24 bulb wouldn't fit, barely, so hopefully these will be able too. Based on what I've read they should, so I really hope so.

This is for a 1999 SR5 4Runner.

Once I receive and install I'll provide feedback for others trying to do this later on, because I know its really confusing with the conflicting posts everywhere on sizes and what not. I bought them for Vleds.
 
Alright, like I said I would check back.

I have 1999 SR5 4Runner. I ordered:
-4 #24 Blue LED's (Used 3 of them on the main gauge cluster bulbs)
-2 #74 White LED's (Used them for the Blinkers)
-4 #74 Blue LED's (Used 1 for the key ring, 1 for the shifter, 2 for the climate control knobs)

All of these from V-Leds.

Here is the end product:

Had a few issues with hot spots on the climate control knobs, might upgrade those at some point.

The Hazards are on, the white ones are blinding, but they look good :)

Now I plan on getting another blue #74 for the cig lighter. Then I want to change the, Rear Defroster, ECT and Window at some point, but those are more difficult and require neowedges. Then the AC button is an EXTREMELY small bulb, so I am stumped there.
 
Can someone direct me to the exact type of lights used on a 2000 4runner? The number 74 bulb has like 5 different variations? Does it matter? Do I need the twist lock bottoms?

I don't think 74's have variations...I think they just have different number's from different applications. All the same size though.

You do not need the twist lock bottoms. Just the bulbs.
