Just wanted to say thanks to everyone and their input here. I ordered the kit and everything went very well until the "dreaded dome". The 2 housing pieces came apart and had to pull the whole thing out. Finally squeezed it in and put it all back. Happy though... thanks everyone for your great experience and info!

Almost there

Received the 13 piece kit Masaro called out in the excellent original post. It came while I was away in Houston (75 degrees). Decided to get as much done as I could today while it was a balmy 19 degrees, since it will be 0 tomorrow (yeah, that's the high).

I didn't survey the kit, just went to work.

Got the doors, vanities, dome, and one map done when I noticed that was the end of the T10s. So I'm 3 short. Got 5 more of the other lamps, and need just two, so evidently a pick and pack mistake, or I should have contacted the seller before I bought. Either way....sent a note and awaiting reply.

Otherwise it wasn't too bad. Dome was a pain as described by others until it mysteriously clicked right in. Grasping the maps is tough with large, and very cold, fingers. Tried the tape trick from the Precision video and it worked on try ~7. Needed a re-do or two on a few installs to get polarities correct.

Overall it brighter and whiter for sure. Easy project, and hope to finish it soon.

Everything is *easy* to do except the side-mirror ones!!!!!

Precision LED's video is a life-saver/MUST view before attempting this mod. BTW, on my 2015 SR5P, on the door lights, all 4 of the clips are on the right side despite of whether it is on the driver's or passenger's side.

Anyone have issues mounting the 2nd row dome light?
It's extremely snugged and it seems that i have to bend the led lights to make them short to fit. I've tried 2 different manufacture and it's the same. I'm using the 5730 31mm festoon dome light led

I installed this same kit from Amazon over the weekend. This is an excellent cheap upgrade to do. Very happy with the results. Big difference in dome, map, and rear hatch lights. The reverse lights are lacking, but I expected that after reading through this thread. I used the Precision LED video for the install and it was extremely helpful. If you want a cheap and easy LED mod, this is the kit for you. If you want super bright LEDs, go with a more expensive kit like others here have done. And again, don't expect much from the reverse lights if you install this kit.

so I finally just got to installing these LEDs. They look amazing. My only problem is, the dome light. I tried to push it in and eventually the middle piece made a popping noise and now seems to be dislodged from the rest of the dome fixture. I tried taking off the dome fixture entirely, but I'm worried I'm going to make the whole thing worse.

How did you guys get the whole dome fixture off? Did I break something when I popped the middle piece off from the rest of the fixture? I put the old bulb in there for the time being, but it just seems like it falls out when I drive now... :(
 
Just ordered the original 13 piece kit the op posted. My wife was complaining the reach hatch lights are not bright enough...

It's only $20 now on eBay. Hoping it truly is brighter then stock :)

You won't be disappointed with the brightness of the rear hatch lights. They are much much brighter than the stock bulbs. They illuminate the whole trunk and also the floor area all around the 4R.
 
I think I did the same thing to mine when I installed. I pushed hard on the gray plastic housing that it became loose. However, I was able to lodge the LED in there at an angle and it has stayed in place for a couple of months now. When I have some time, I'm planning on taking the entire housing out and figuring out a better way to install it.

If I recall, there was a post earlier on this thread where someone explained how to remove the entire thing.

The premium set from Precision LED seems to have everything you need (tools and premium lights). However, I did not want to spend $150+ for something that could be purchased for $30 elsewhere. Nice post. Ebay says the listing is only for 2003-2012 Toyota 4Runners. Is there a big difference between the 2012 and 2013's?

Based on your description, I think I did the same thing.

The whole assembly will come loose from the headliner pretty easy. There are two bits that look almost like slide switches in opposite corners of the gray assembly. If you push those (I think towards the center), it loosens up the mounting and you can wiggle the whole thing away from the headliner. Then you can then pop the middle piece back on. This also makes it a bit easier to get the larger bulb in.

To put it back, wiggle it back into the headliner and move the tabs back to their original position.

If you want to go back to the original bulb, you'll probably have to pull the contact tab back out a little bit to provide tension.

Eventually, I'll get around to taking mine back apart again to put in the LED panel that I bought. When I do that, I'll take some pictures and annotate it. Pictures would be so much better than my description.
 
I bought the 2014-2015 kit for my 2010. For an extra $1.20, you get one extra festoon and four extra T10s. The 2010-2013 kit only comes with two extra bulbs.

The bulbs in both kits are identical except the 2014+ has two extra T10s for the side mirror puddle lights. I figured I could use the extra LEDs as replacements or transfer the kit to a 2014+ if I decide to get a newer 4Runner in the future.

I must have gotten lucky with the dome light because the festoon I installed was the same length as the OEM bulb. I compared it with three of the other festoons that came with the kit, and they were all slightly longer.
 
I ordered the 2010 to 2012 from yitamotor, because I didn't read the WHOLE thread.

I had the same problem with the dome light over the second row. Ruined two festoons before I gave up..

It would APPEAR that the kit (2010-2012, yitamotor) assumes your 4Runner has festoons on the doors, down low. My 2013 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition has wedges on the doors, and has no puddle lights in the mirror, for the record.

Next stop is read up on the 2014-2015, then try to contact the seller and figure out about
- getting wedges
- how to get a 5630 festoon that fits better.
and I think other forum members have already done so.
