LED Taillight Retrofit

Hoping for some advice/comments, thanks.

Big thanks to RDG178 for sending me his busted taillight!

I know they're plastic welded, my attempts to dremel and use a hotknife to cut the lense off didn't work - and wouldn't look the best when reassembled.

Here are some pics, i've ordered some new components and will update when they get here. The scratches and adhesive residue aren't from trying to pull the lense off, disregard those.

Here's the clear portion of the lense, very brittle - don't pry :)

Here you can see the hotknife removed the welding and the lense - but the transparent lense is brittle vs the hard gray plastic. It's hard to seperate and get the hotknife in where needed without breaking the lense.

See the welding here, heating and a knife didn't budge. This seam is visible from the outside - wouldn't want a horrible line there.

I plan on cutting out the rear of the housing and rear reflector insert the led assembly and reassemble, similar to here:

Notice the retrofit isn't the cleanest, but the finished product is just fine!
With the large assembly of our taillight, I will probably remove the entire rear assembly right before the gasket to get access to the entire reflector.

I'm definitely following this one. This is one mod I definitely want to do if Toyota doesn't release LED tails with the 2013 T4R refresh.
