All of my made-in-America points aside....I could give two s**ts where the profit from my vehicle purchase goes. Why is it the job of American consumers to prop-up these companies when they've been feeding us junk for decades? I'd rather spend my hard-earned money on a proven product that my family and I can rely on. When GM/ Ford start selling a proven, quality product, I'll be first in line....until then, I'm a Toyota guy.

I paid $25,200 in 04 for a new 2wd sport model & regretfully sold it in 07. I went to a toyota dealership today & was disapointed with the new ones compared to my old one. For example:
Why do the new 4runners have antenna's sticking up?
Why does the interior seem cheap?
What's all that fake chrome garbage/trim?
They are much more expensive as well. I was really disapointed because I've always owned one. I currently drive a 2000 model as a daily driver & love the thing. Maybe I'll look at the Grand Cherokee with the new Pentax engine. Has anyone else noticed this decline in value/quality.
I didn't really get it. I don't find intreior cheap, at least comparing to other vehicles I drove. Chrome - lots of other vehicles have fake chome, I guess people like it. I too never liked fake chrome ouside or fake wood inside. I'm glad I could get myself T4R without chrome.
Antenna? To be honest I noticed antenna only after I read here that people replacing it to a shorter one. Choose a vehicle based on antenna - c'mon
I bought 4Runner because I needed true utility vehicle, capable and reliable, if I needed bells and whistles I would go for a Cherokee or Explorer. Highlander probably goes somewhere in between.

One of my few concerns about the runner is just pure amount of space with the seats folded down. I'm going to be hauling band equipment and the like, but I obviously like the 4runner and all it's capabilities. Is there a vehicle that gets your guy's approval and is like the 4runner in terms of capabilities that has more cubic feet of room with rear flat folding seats? Or if not I'm sure the 4runner will still be ample space.

4Runner with a trailer. Just kidding. I have hauled my drum kit, 3 amps mixing board and 2 monitors in my 4runner. No that is not all the equipment but between us we got it there with no trailer.

Sweet! We would be hauling 1-2 4x12s, 1 4x10, Guitar, Bass, 5 piece drum kit, etc. Thanks for that input!
BTW we have a place by us that specializes in refurbishing and sells 40 series Land Cruisers. Pretty cool

You can't go wrong other than some 2000-2001's where transmission failures were an issue because of an internal shim that was out of spec.

Couldn't find the info from the Toyota site, but Edmunds claims the 2011 4Runner has 8 more cubic feet of cargo space than the 2011 LC with all seats folded down. (90 vs. 82 cu ft.) I would have guessed it to be pretty close, obviously with the LC having slightly more space. Interesting...... I guess those third row seats take up a lot of room in the "stowed" position.

The difference is that the 2nd row seats don't fold flat like they do in the 4R. The back folds on top of the seat and then they fold up together and lean against the front seats.

They're all pretty similar. Interior width is nearly the same on 80-200 series and 4Runners; however, there are a couple of extra inches in headroom compared to the 4Runner.
Neither the 4R nor LC have what I would call spacious interiors.
FWIW I'm the biggest LC Fanboy on the planet. They're my favorite thing on 4 wheels bar none.

Ok guys.....last September my 3rd gen 2002 SE with 150k miles looked like it needed a whole heck of a lot of work....muffler, brakes, tires....ya, normal maintenance stuff....looked at the cost and just decided to get a new one....not because I had to, but I just wanted a new truck....simple.....
So a trip to the Toyota and Jeep dealer....did not look at Ford because my dad has had numerous ones for many years, he loves them, but true to the name, he fixed or repaired daily.....that is just his experience, so they were ruled out....I have owned 3 GM Blazers....not bad, but a lot of cost to maintain in stuff that should last...Have driven a lot of rental Jeeps over the years, not bad, but not the same as the 4Runner...for what I wanted, it appeared the Jeep was about the same or more in cost....
Based on my research, consumer reports and owner satisfaction surveys and my own past service on my 02, I decided on the Trail model, however, none was to be found in 200 miles....I finally found 1, but personally I do not care for the black color....personal choice here....I found a SR5 Mag gray with leather seats....nice, but I like cloth....trade off to get the vehicle now I guess....
Had it for 3 months now and am super pleased with it....IMHO it is superior in feel and look than the 02....on occasion I do wish I had the trail, just like the appearance.....really do not need the extra features for my use...sliding tray would have been nice....chrome is not my fancy but it does look sharp.....
Just my 2 cents....if I had to do it over again, I would still choose the runner....

Sorry if I offend anyone with this - but who in the phuck buys a 2wd 4Runner in the first place??
I've just recently seen several of the new Prius Wagons - maybe you would be better suited with one of those
Normal people buy phucking 2wd 4Runners. Not all of us have grizzly bears as pets & live in the mountains. I'd bet a majority of all 4Runners sold are 2wd & used as family haulers with occasional jaunts off road.
