Normal people buy phucking 2wd 4Runners. Not all of us have grizzly bears as pets & live in the mountains. I'd bet a majority of all 4Runners sold are 2wd & used as family haulers with occasional jaunts off road.

I cannot back up with numbers, but I doubt that. When I looked at them all but two the dealer had were 4x4s, and I live in AZ where 4x4 is not as necessary as up north.

North of the Mason Dixon Line its probably 4wd, south is probably 2wd. If you don't know what the MDL is then your man card and green card have been revoked. A couple sales people told me the best sellers here are mid loaded 2wd SR5's.

I'm South of the Mason Dixon line in the mountains. I saw the Toyota guy last night and he said "We sell an average of 5-6 4Runners a month since I started which was 12 years ago. He has never had a 2WD 4Runner on his lot. I would say 75% 4WD and 24% 2WD and 1% other.

I'm south of the MDL. When I purchased my 4Runner, none of the dealers near me (3) had any 2wd models. Not that I was looking for one, but I remember thinking at the time, who buys a 2wd 4Runner? Definitely not me.

Plenty of dealers will invalidate the warranty if they feel what damage happened to your vehicle was because of a mod you added to it after you purchased it

first of all, ANY aftermarket part will void the warranty of the OEM part it replaces. No matter who installs it.

second of all, it is ILLEGAL for dealer to "invalidate" your insurance unless you sign a contract stating the opposite.

dealer can REFUSE a service due to modification, but they cannot VOID your warranty.

In Miami, there seems to be a lack of 4x4s, there are many suvs that are just 2 whell drive, including 4 runners (ran into that when looking into getting a 4th gen).

I have only been to two dealers here looking at 5th gens, but they were all 4x4, and the used car area had all 2 wheel drive 4th gens.

I am looking for a 91'ish manual 4Runner with a V6 (I know, heads) for big boy playtime and evertime I see one up here in the evergreen state on Craigslist its got CA plates and, invariabily, 2WD.

I see the 2WD 4Runner as all the looks but W/O the beans to back it up. On the other hand, I put my 4R in 4WD even when I obviously don't need it. Oh, love the manual 4WD shifter in my SR5. I admit its one of the more silly reasons why I picked the SR5 over the limited.

Yup, finding a 2WD 4Runner in my hunt is almost as irritating as finding that someone (i.e. dealer) has listed a 4R as manual only to find when I look at it the truck is obviously an automatic. I think the manual 4WD lever confuses some soft headed folks.

Ive owned Nissans, fords, Mitsubishis, VW's, Suzuki's and Toyotas. Out of every car I've owned only the toyota and Nissan actually felt like a well buit vehicle. When choosing a new car I looked at everything including the cherokee (which is very nice looking and driving) but way too much money for what you get. The JGC was over $40K. So I narrowed it down to the Nissan Xterra and 4Runner. The Xtrerra is a bad ass off road vehicle with a sweet motor. Ultimately I choose the 4Runner due to resale value, size and for how comforatble the seats are (the xterra seats suck). The interesting thing with the 4Runner is I had an option of a brand new Mag gry SR5 for 35k or a used mag gry SR5 with 35K miles for 32K. It was a no brainer, I went with the new one and love it.
