Lift + 265/75's on Stock Wheels = Narrow Stance?

Is it just me or does this setup need wheel spacers?

I don't have any pics of said issue but I was wondering if you guys that lifted and put 265/75's on stock rims are using spacers?

i feel you man...

i didnt take any pics on mine as i didnt like the stance at all...too narrow as a mofo sp when looking at it from behind
had stock 5 spoke wheels,265/75/16 and 3in lift-it looked silly narrow from the back-my friends even noticed it driving-
so took care of it for now with lc wheels in 16x8 w/c filled it up nicely and be changing the tires to 285 shld put more meat.

265/75R16's on stock wheels....look WAY better with some 1" wheel spacers.

The stock tires are 265/70-16. You are talking 265/75-16. The width is the same (265mm) the sidewall has grown from 70% of the width to 75% but the section width is the same. (section width is the measurement where the tire is the widest, sidewall bulge to sidewall bulge)

I will say that with the limited flares, the tires are inset. I added Spidertrax 1.25" wide. http://www.spidertrax.com/Toyota-Hub-Centric-Spacer?sc=2&category=9984 The Toyota wheels are hub centric. This means that the wheels center themselves of the hub. Try to stay hub centric. This will also support the spacer and the wheel. I do like the look better with the spacers. It brought the sidewall of the tires to the edge of the flares.

As you can see from the link, the spacer bolts onto the vehicle. Then the wheel bolts onto the spacer. The wheels do need to be removed periodically and the spacer nuts need to be re-torqued.

No, you don't need new studs (they are just short enough). But, I also suggest you get the spidertrax 1.25"ers that Gerdo linked to because they are hub centric so the weight is on the center ring rather than the studs themselves.

You got a different meaning then I did on the "need new studs?" I was thinking that he thought that the spacers and the wheels are mounted with the same studs. You read it as, will the stock studs be too long?

The front wheel studs are shorter than the rear. The 1.25" spacers are deep enough that the stock studs do not extend past the spacers.

I have spider trax 1.25in with 265/75s with stock rims on mine an it makes it flush with the flares.

I recently added a 3" lift and have been debating on adding some 1.25" or 1.5" spacers or just going with .5" spacers and getting some 285's. I'm leaning towards the the 1.25" spacers and keeping my 265/70's for now. This would be much cheaper than new tires. Here are a couple pics after the lift was put on with stock wheels and 265/70/16.

I was advised against going with the 265/75-16 tires since I have the 4.10 gears - 4Runners with the 4.30 gears are better equiped to handle the 265/75 tires. I'm staying with 265/70 so I can keep a smoother shifting/riding Runner.

There was a little power loss going up to the 265/75-16 but not much. I am glad that I didn't go the 285s. Even at altitude it's not bad.

I agree on the power loss. I can tell with the 265/75's that it's holding gears a little longer when accelerating. I can only imagine what it would be like with 285's


I like the looks of the rigs with the spacers. I think that'll be my next purchase.

result in the transmission "rethinking" its shifting due to the larger diameter and or heavier tires?

I added SpiderTrax 1.25" spacers with my 265/75's, and it looks much better (especially with the wide flares). I like to see a little bit of tire sticking out of the flares.
