Lift and Tire Central (pics)... Post 'em Up!

Yeah probably a leveling kit, and then later down the line the bilsteins. Im still learning about suspensions so im not quite sure which way to go. Dont want a huge lift just 2 inches.

Installed this weekend.

Bilstein 5100s (front at 0.85")
2014 FJ Springs
265/70 BFG KO2s
Spidertrax spacers

Better pics to come.

With just the Daystar you can run a 265/65 18. You might have a slight rub at full lock but that can easily be fixed by pulling the front liners foward and maybe a little trimming.

I have Icon 2.5 w/resi at 3" in front
2.0 shocks with 3" expedition coil in rear
1.5 spidertrax spacer all coners
BFG 285/70 17 all terrain KO2 love the appearance
But I get hard rubbing under braking when turning?

Nice setup!
It's your spacing to fit the fatter tires. What are you rubbing on? Liner? Sometimes alignment can help, if it's a good tech, or you can find where it hits and do some trimming. It's a pain, but have to love the bigger tires! Try running 35's! [emoji2] [emoji106]

He is likely rubbing the front of the liner. His "air dams" (I think they're called) are still there. the little bubble, bump looking things right in front of the tires at the bottom of the bumper.

Cut these off. You will also want to cut the liner to the "vents" and zip tie them forward. (So cut everything off from mid-vent down)

This solved all of my rubbing issues with my daystar/285 setup, but I also dont do a lot of offroading so....

You might rub other places too, but this will solve a LOT of the issue.----- Edit: You will also want to loose the mud flaps

Mine are so cut up these days I forgot about that. Lol my drivers side liner is gone now, and the only thing left of the passenger is to help block water from the intake. No mud flaps since lifting either. Tons of my bumper gone too now that I think of it... I want 37's!

Lol buy a snorkel, and trash that other liner. C'mon... Its a necessity right?:nerd:

You can do one of two things for the 37s:

1)- Fj drop bracket, and rear springs (obvious cons)

2)- You can do that SAS you got everyone pumped about! :bounce: lol

The area I'm rubbing is the part were the mud flap mounts on fender flare.. not liner..
I thought it was Body bracket on frame..I sure it's minor.. buts it's annoying ...I cut almost all front part of fender liner..
I'll take more imput... before I start cutting. .thanks guys

I'm kicking around ideas for a build on my 99 Limited 2wd. I'm going to throw this out there and feel free to give me some advise or point out flaws as necessary. The 99 is my daily driver. I just want a nice height for looks. I don't off-road and I only drive around 16 miles to work round trip per day. I'm on a very limited budget and I will buy everything as I can afford it. Most likely through Amazon with my store card. :)

This is my plan for the lift and tires:

Toytec/Eibach front coil lift springs (3" lift)
Bilstein 5100 Series Shock Kit for Toyota Tacoma 4WD & Pre Runner 2005-14 - Includes Front Ride Height Adjustable Shocks # 24-239370 & Rear Shocks # 24-186728
ARB 2891 Old Man Emu Coil Spring
Toytec 2" body lift (not on Amazon)
set of 255/85/16 mud terrain tires (I like the looks)

I know I'm a "mall queen" so whatever.

Not sure if this has been answered, but I'm sure you've heard you posted a 3rd gen question in a 4th gen thread. Nevertheless, for a fellow Houstonian, I'll give my insights.

Toytec Eibach front springs - SUUUPER stiff!
Bilstein 5100s for Tacomas - SUUUPER soft!
Those two together, not a good combination. Do yourself a favor and save up for the Tundra Bilsteins and Tundra TRD springs (PM me if you need me to dig up a part number)

891 rear springs would be a good choice to pair with tundra TRD fronts, although I never had them. You may or may not want a body lift with this setup. I had 906s with mine and had 1/2" reverse rake. I thought 906s with 1.5" rear spacer would've been perfect. I was worried about them being too stiff, but that wasn't the case. Do a search for Speedy TRD lift. He did a great write up on the install and has pics to show the stance.

If you're getting a 2" BL, consider the '99 tall springs for a cheaper route. My 3rd gen build thread has pics with this set up and no BL. I think '99 talls with a 1" BL would look great too.

I'm happy to help with install if you need it. I switched out the suspension on my '02 about 4 times.

Have someone turn the wheel while you inspect the wheel well. You will be able to see what you are close too. Aftermarket UCA'S push your wheel closer to the rear, so you may need to chop the body mount. I had more backspacing than you, so I never hit my body mount with my 285s.

If you are getting a vibration through the cab, like the tire lugs are getting caught on something solid, it is almost definitely your body mount.

Also, the work computer isn't letting me see the photos anymore. If the front mud flaps are still on, they need to come off.

I want a snorkel! I think I need one too. I sucked up water a couple weeks ago and I wasn't even hardly doing anything...
I think it's going to be the FJ dB lift before the SAS. My better half said I have to wait til I pay the truck off before I can do anything that major to it. Lol
I am thinking of converting to long travel 63" chevy leaf springs for the rear though. Tons of travel and still a good ride. Takes stages, but I'll get there eventually!
The rough country lift is reversible if for some reason I don't like it. I think I might lose my body lift if I run that though. Maybe not, not sure yet. You can adjust that lift 5-8 inches pretty easily. Maybe I'll max it out like Keak and run 40's! Lmao. I'd really be breaking everything with the way I drive. I would love to keep the ifs but it just isn't strong enough for my wheeling tendencies. IE: heavy foot, heavy tires.

I actually read your build about the water. A snorkel might actually be a good idea lol

I dont blame you or your wife lol. I only dream of an SAS. I dont have a need for one though. There is a guy on here that has leaf sprinngs in the back. Its doable, and I must admit I miss my springs. This is my first vehicle with coil springs.

The bad thing about the water, I didn't even hit it hard. I slid sideways into a hole and gunned it. I doubt I made it over 5 mph as it was very loose mud. Must have been the angle or something.
I wish he would have posted more details on that rear leaf conversion. There's advantages to coils with a 4/3 link, but you can't beat simplicity! His weren't even long travel leaves and he got a ton of flex from them.
There's a guy on ttora forum that changed all his suspension to custom and full out desert races that thing. He has long travel leaves in the rear and has a cantilever system set up. Completely awesome what he did and he has ton of travel! Kind of my inspiration although I don't have the slightest clue how to build the cantilever arms. Lol

285/70/17

I have a 2006 SportEdition 4Runner, I have a 2.5 in. front lift and nothing on the rear. I have 265/70/17 but I need new tires and wanna go bigger. I was wondering if I could get 285/70/17 with just the front lift. I have mudflaps, which I don't mind getting rid of.

I'm pretty sure you need some sort of lift back there, but I'm not 100%. You could try FJ coils or a small spacer lift after trying the tires. I think when I had my 33's with the rear lifted 1.5" I was just barely fine. Front I had to lose the mud flaps and pull the liner forward a little.

hi all, new owner here, quick question:

i have a '06 limited with the stock 18 inch wheels, whats the max tire size i can put without rubbing?

i just bought the truck 2 days ago and its got some eco-roller tires on it..and im new to colorado with winter around the corner..so those gotta go lol

thanks in advance, love the forum.

Same exact situation here, man. Except I'm in GA. Got mine last night. Gotta get some tires ASAP.
