Thanks - that is helpful. I agree I don't want any poke. From a looks perspective (and rim protection) I want more rubber not less.

So based on this theory, why are there so many 265/70/17 and not as many 285/65/17 (for example). They are essentially the same size other than width right?

I have wondered that myself. According to my understanding they are the same height. I am also wondering why there are no 265/75/17 or 275/75/17 when there are a ton of 265/70/18 or 275/70/18.

The first is the width, yes, the second number is the percentage of width for the sidewall height.

a 265 70 is 265mm wide and the sidewall is 265 x .70
a 285 65 is 285mm wide with a sidewall height of 285 x .65

This is also based on the wheel size, 17, 18, etc.

The best thing is to keep the overall height the same, so the speedometer is still accurate. It is recommended to stay within 3% of original. However, many on the site here go taller which throws off the speedometer, but that can fixed with an aftermarket calibrator such as a hypertech.

That is my understanding as well.

265 x .70 = 185.5 mm
285 x .65 = 185.25 mm (essentially the same)

My question is why do they not offer a .75 version of 265 or 275 in a 17 in rim when they do offer a .70 version in 265 or 275 in an 18 in wheel.

They offer these:
265 x .70 x 2 + 457.2 (18 in) = 828.2 mm
275 x .70 x 2 + 457.2 (18 in) = 842.2 mm

But not these:
265 x .75 x 2 + 431.8 (17 in) = 829.3 mm (32.6 in)
275 x .75 x 2 + 431.8 (17 in) = 844.3 mm (33.2 in)

I would like to have either of them.

I'm running 265/75/16s. 1.5 inch wheel spacers. Had some monitor rubbing. Just moved the mud flaps forward.

Just wrapped my Stealth-6's in some 275/70/17 Coopers. With 5100's and OME 884's, there is mudguard and inner liner rubbing. Nothing major. Love the look. Tires are silent and handle well on the hwy.

What finish on the wheels? Planning on getting those and adding TRD center cap

Are you guys running hub rings on your setups?

Most of the wheels I have been looking at are 108mm and the hub on our trucks is 106.1mm (pretty sure?). The big companies do not provide hub rings because they say the match is close enough. 2mm does not seem all that close when you are going 70mph.

That being said, most of the hub rings for this size differential get pretty bad reviews because they are so thin.

What are you guys doing? What is your experience?

I love it. The combo of the Daystar spring spacers, new springs, and the Monroe shocks are a great combo. I also replaced my lower control arms and camber bolts while I was in there (due to the "freeze".)

I'm a big fan of the General Grabber AT2's as they last longer than BFG's and Nitto's and have a nice tread pattern which is aggressive enough for me. (Although I love the Nitto Terra Grapplers which I've owned two sets of.. BFG has just gone downhill IMO.)

I may put on wheel spacers all around, but right now I am more than happy with how the truck is riding on and off road.

Looks good. I run the Generals on my Tacoma and I'm a big fan of them myself.
